**What’s the Difference Between TED and TEDx?**
**TED**
TED, which stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, invites some of the world’s most influential thinkers and doers to share their “Ideas Worth Spreading.” Launched as a California-based annual conference in 1984, TED was acquired by Chris Anderson’s Sapling Foundation in 2001 and expanded into a global media platform. Notable past speakers include Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Ray Kurzweil, Paola Antonelli, Frank Gehry, Sheryl Sandberg, Gordon Brown, Dan Ariely, and Bono. In the spirit of “Ideas Worth Spreading,” TED introduced the TEDx program. The "x" signifies an independently organized TED event, enabling people worldwide to host their own events and foster TED-like experiences in their communities. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks videos and live speakers come together to spark deep discussions and connections within the local community.
