Back in January, we were proud to share that we had received funding from Medarbejdernes Honorarfond i Novo Gruppen to support the delivery of a new briquette production machine to a local social enterprise in Bukavu, DR Congo.

The enterprise produces eco-friendly fuel briquettes made from by-products of insect farming – turning waste into sustainable energy.

We have just received good news from Murhula Zigabe Guido that the machine was purchased in February and that the production has nearly tripled – increasing from 250 kg to 630 kg of clean charcoal briquettes per day.

The new production capacity has also created additional ripple effects. To secure enough carbonised material for the machine, vulnerable women are being trained in waste collection techniques. At the same time, more women are being recruited as local resellers of the briquettes in their communities.

This is a strong example of how relatively modest support can help unlock meaningful and scalable impact.

Support Home-Based Workers in Uganda by Becoming a Member of RAISE!

Zavuga Consolata makes and sells handcrafted items – but like many others in the informal economy, she lacks access to formal banking services.

“The SACCO will offer low interest loans to members in face of inaccessibility to formal banking services.”

This is why we’re directing 100% of membership fees (until March 2026) to NBO’s Savings and Credit Cooperative (SACCO), helping build fair access to credit for people like Zavuga.

Even small projects can have a big impact.

We’re excited to share that RAISE has received DKK 29,000 in funding from the Medarbejdernes Honorarfond i Novo Gruppen to support the delivery of a new production machine to eastern DR Congo.

Through our close partnership with MAMAH in Uganda, we were introduced to Murhula Zigabe from Briquette du Kivu – a local social enterprise in Bukavu that produces eco-friendly fuel briquettes made from the leftovers of insect farming.

The company recently secured a contract to supply 4 tons of briquettes to Panzi Hospital, which treats survivors of sexual violence from the ongoing conflict in the region. But they face one big challenge: their current machine can’t keep up with the demand.

Thanks to the funding, we will now support:

While Briquette du Kivu is not a formal partner of RAISE, this initiative is a great example of how our local networks and trusted partnerships can open doors to support impactful, community-based solutions – even in some of the world’s most challenging contexts.
