Let Suryani live as a woman Suryani is a transgender woman from Malaysia. She has come to Denmark in the hope of living a free life where she can be herself.

Suryani personally knows five transgender people who have been killed in Malaysia in the past 15 years. There's no record of these hate crimes because police don't register the victims as transgender, but their true identity are confirmed by Human Rights Watch in the report ”I'm scared to be a woman”

In Malaysia, it's impossible for Suryan

i to live a tolerable life as a transgender. She encounters problems with authorities constantly. If she walks on the street, she risks being arrested just for being who she is. If she's arrested, she'll get into even more trouble with the police. Because her ID says that she is male, the police will put her in a cell with men in case of an arrest. This puts her at extreme risk of being raped. Suryani can't count on the protection of the authorities. She doesn't have any possibilities of complaining about the way she is being treated by police. Instead, they blame her for creating problems for herself because of her gender. She's afraid to use her male ID. Whenever she has to show it, she is in risk of being harassed, beaten, abused or arrested. Going go to public places involves great risk for her. She has previously been arrested just for wearing sandals, just for looking as she does. She faces trial for wearing women's clothes, but has run away from this trial. She risks prison (in the male ward) for up to six months for ”imposing as a woman” as Malaysia law formulates it. She furthermore risks an extra sentence for running away from the trial. If she is sentenced, the police will probably shave off all her hair and put her in the male ward. Her crime is that she wore women's sandals. The trial will take place in a sharia court in Malaysia. Suryani is registered as a Muslim even though she converted to Hindusim a long time ago. That's not possible to do officially, so it still says ”Muslim” on her ID card – meaning that she is subjected to the laws and rulings of the sharia courts. There are numerous more examples of harassment, attacks etc that Surya and her family faces because of her gender identity. All of them are known to the Danish immigration authorities – but because some of the past experiences are very painful for Suryani, not all of them will be posted here on Facebook. The Danish authorities didn't listen. Now Suryani wants you to hear her voice. She's afraid that she will be another victim in the police statistics of murder victims, just like five of her transgender friends have been. Please support Suryani and her right to live as a woman.
