🌐 From food waste to new life in Cyprus 🤚

At NOVA - Alternative Schools Limassol, an Eco-School in Cyprus, students turned everyday leftovers into a powerful lesson for Global Action Days 2026. Guided by their teachers and school chef, children explored how food connects people and the planet by transforming lunch scraps into compost ♻️

Through this hands-on activity, they learned about food waste, climate change, and how small actions can support healthier food systems. Their compost will now help nourish plants and bring new life to their school environment 🌸

A big shoutout to the Cyprus Marine Environment Protection Association (CYMEPA), FEE’s Member Organisation in Cyprus, for supporting and inspiring local action that connects classrooms to global impact.

Across Global Action Days, students, schools and communities are rethinking food systems together 💚
As of today, Cyprus has 4,664 participants taking part in Global Action Days 2026 from 22 sites! Do you want to find out how many people have registered from your country? Check out the interactive map on our webpage: https://www.fee.global/global-action-days-2026

🌐 What does global environmental education look like at scale?

In 2025, across the globe FEE:
• Engaged 15 million+ young people
• Powered 53,000+ Eco-Schools
• Certified 8,300+ Green Key tourism and hospitality establishments
• Certified 5,200+ Blue Flag beaches, marinas and tourism boats

But here’s the real story: progress doesn’t come from reinventing solutions. It comes from scaling what already works.

Our programmes are turning education into action in classrooms, on coastlines, in hotels, and across communities worldwide.

🌐 Our Earth is worth celebrating every single day, not just on Earth Day.

It is our home, our source of life, and the heart of everything we cherish. The air we breathe, the water we drink, and the beauty that surrounds us all come from this one precious planet. Protecting Earth means protecting our future.

🤚 Every small action matters, because caring for our planet should be an everyday commitment.

"This year’s Global Action Days, led by the Foundation for Environmental Education, brings together more than 320,000 participants worldwide from 135 countries.

This is a powerful demonstration of collective commitment to environmental action, extending far beyond the immediate reach of FEE that has members in 85 countries.
Among these global contributions, participation of schools from the Gulf States, as well as one school each from Syria and Iraq, stands out as especially meaningful.
In regions affected by ongoing conflict, the decision by teachers and students to engage in environmental education and action is not something to take lightly. It reflects determination, courage, and a belief in the importance of building a sustainable future, even under the most challenging circumstances.

Their participation is more than symbolic. It underscores the critical role of education as a source of stability, empowerment, and hope. It also reminds us that global movements like Global Action Days must remain inclusive, ensuring that voices from all contexts — especially those facing adversity — are seen, heard, and supported.

Their voices matter. Their actions matter. And their participation strengthens a truly global movement for change." - Nikos Petrou, FEE President

📚🌍 This World Book Day, we reflect on what it really takes to turn climate ambition into action.

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Tim Christophersen (VP Climate Action at Salesforce, former UNEP) to FEE. His new book, Generation Restoration, explores how we can move beyond commitments and drive real, lasting change.

In our conversation, we explored how organisations can bridge the gap between climate targets and real behaviour change, what truly motivates companies to invest in environmental education and youth engagement beyond branding, and the biggest sustainability wins so far.

A plate full of purpose 🌱

FEE's Head Office staff came together in celebration of Global Action Days at KraftWerket for a 100% plant-based meal celebrating local, seasonal ingredients. The feast included a vibrant carrot purée, schnitzel with celery root, a kale salad with tangy mustard and mushroom sauce, and carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. Everyone who attended joined the clean plate club.

More than just a meal, this was a moment of connection, linking our everyday choices to global impact as part of Danmarks Biblioteksforening , highlighting SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

Inspired by FEE’s Global Action Days, Activity 1: Palette of Plenty, the team explored how colourful, nutritious food can nourish both people and planet. Every ingredient told a story of local farmers, seasonal cycles, and the power of collective action.

Sustainability is on our plates, in our partnerships, and in the choices we make every day.

What will your “palette of plenty” meal for Global Action Days include?

Earth Day is almost here, but one day isn’t enough.
What if Earth Day became a habit, not a moment?

🌐🖐️ From 22 April to 6 May, Global Action Days is your chance to turn intention into action.
In line with the Earth Day Network, we’re rethinking the way we eat and reducing our impact on the planet one meal at a time.

This is your commitment:
Start where you are, act locally and stay consistent.

🥕🗺️ Across five hands-on activities, you’ll explore how food connects people and planet, from seasonal, colourful meals and legume-powered recipes to mapping your food, rediscovering cultural roots, and questioning what food labels really mean.

🌐🖐️ From Mexico to Slovenia to Greece, students are exploring where their food comes from through the Global Action Days activity “Mapping My Meal”.

In Cancún, learners traced the journey of a favourite snack and reflected on how food production and transport affect both cost and carbon footprint. Across Europe, students are making similar connections, linking everyday meals to global systems and environmental impact.

These inspiring activities show how young people everywhere are turning awareness into action.

Join the movement, register for Global Action Days and start mapping your impact today.
