The next generation of seafarers is already taking a stand against corruption!

This week, MACN's Kasper Nielsen visited Lyceum International Maritime Academy (LIMA) to support the rollout of MACN's Next Generation of Seafarers training, delivered in partnership with the Norwegian Training Center.

Meeting Executive Dean Capt. Alexander Gonzales, his faculty, and the LIMA cadets was an inspiring reminder of why this work matters. Together, they explored how corruption undermines safety, welfare, and fairness at sea, and what it looks like in practice when seafarers choose transparency and accountability from day one of their careers.

MACN is proud to work alongside LIMA's leadership and faculty mentors to bring this effort to life, and looks forward to deepening this collaboration as we expand the program across the Philippines' maritime education community.

Future seafarers taking a clear stand against corruption is exactly what our industry needs. We are proud that NYK-TDG MARITIME ACADEMY cadets in the Philippines are using MACN’s Next Generation of Seafarers’ Training to understand how corrupt practices undermine safety, crew welfare, and fair employment at sea. 🙌

You can find our real-life case studies from the training here: https://macn.dk/macn-training-cases/

MACN at Seafarers' Expo 2026.

Starting tomorrow, MACN is proud to stand with seafarers at the first-ever ITF Seafarers Trust Seafarers’ Expo (MILAAP), taking place 29–31 January at Princess Dock, Mumbai, India.

The Expo brings together thousands of seafarers, experts and industry partners to share knowledge, learn from global maritime expertise, and explore training and career pathways, placing seafarers’ rights and wellbeing at the center.

MACN believes lasting change comes through collective action. At the Expo, we’re sharing practical tools that help seafarers protect their rights, report corrupt demands, and access support.

Visit our booth to see what’s working on the ground, and how collaboration is strengthening integrity in Indian ports. Learn more here: https://www.itfseafarers.org/en/seafarers-expo-2026

Every step toward cleaner trade matters. At MACN, we believe tackling corruption in maritime logistics is key to unlocking fair, efficient commerce. Our Cost of Corruption study showed how integrity failures can add millions to transport (and living) costs, undermining growth. That’s why this week's milestone isn’t just an MoU; it’s a commitment to systemic change.

MACN and our partners at the Convention on Business Integrity (CBi) are pleased to announce the signing of an MoU with the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN).

MACN and CRFFN further strengthened their collaboration to promote transparency and efficiency in logistics and along the port corridors. This cargo-side focus is essential to embedding integrity across the entire Nigerian maritime value chain.

A Milestone for a Transparent Maritime Sector in Bangladesh!

Last month, MACN, in collaboration with our local partner, the Global Compact Network Bangladesh - GCNB, officially launched the Say No Campaign in Bangladesh, an important step toward integrity and transparency in the industry. The campaign brings together shipping companies, government bodies, and local stakeholders in a collective effort to reject illicit demands and foster transparency in port operations.

Over 100 participants attended the launch event, including key industry leaders and decision-makers who reaffirmed their commitment to fighting corruption. Speakers from Customs, the Mercantile Marine Office, Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, Chittagong Port Authority, and the private sector shared valuable insights and practical steps to strengthen ethical practices in maritime operations. A special thank you to Interport Maritime Ltd. and Tanjil Ahmed Ruhullah for their valuable contributions.

MACN Senior Advisor, Commodore Syed Ariful Islam and MACN Lead, Mathias Bak provided an overview of MACN’s ongoing activities in Bangladesh, sharing key statistics that highlight both the progress achieved and the challenges ahead.

We are excited to continue this momentum!

MACN has returned from an inspiring visit to the Philippines, where we met with the seafarers’ union Amosup, as well as MACN Members and training institutions including Höegh Autoliners, NYK-TDG Maritime Academy, Jebsen PTC, and others.

We’re proud to launch a new initiative supported by the ITF Seafearers Trust called the "Next Generation of Seafarers". MACN has developed an e-learning course designed to equip cadets with the knowledge to identify and resist illicit payments throughout their education and careers. By providing insights into key anti-corruption legislation, their MLC rights, and real-life case studies, we believe this is a strong first step in preparing young seafarers to resist corruption and pitfalls during their cadet training and recruitment.

We are offering this training free of charge to any interested maritime institution, and are now rolling it out in Bangladesh, India, and the Philippines. At MACN, we believe in a maritime industry built on transparency, safety, and courage. This is just the beginning!
