The title commends an alpine town for its particular commitment to the implementation of the Alpine Convention and is awarded by an international Jury. ble, trend-setting development of the regions themselves. The fact that the Alpine Convention draws on alpine towns for its contents is of key significance given that around two thirds of the population in the Alps live in urbanised regions, which in turn represent only around 40% of the total alpine area. So while the Alps are still clearly rural in terms of surface area, the population - and with it the economy - is already predominantly urban. Here nature and culture, ecology and economy collide head on, and it is the stated principal objective of the Alpine Town of the Year to communicate that idea to the population at large.

Inspiring weekend in Morbegno! 🏔️✨
For our first General Assembly we gathered in the beautiful town in Lombardy to plan for the future, discuss topics like mobility, tourism and climate action, and celebrate our shared „Passion for the Alps.“
From a guided tour through the town, enjoying the local cuisine, celebrating the re-opening of the Infopoint of the .convention to exploring the stunning Val di Mello - it was a productive and beautiful time for the representatives of our member towns, the jury members, guest and young people who joined us.
A big thank you to the town of Morbegno for hosting us! 🌿
