High above the rooftops of Berlin, on the 5th floor of Kühlhaus at Gleisdreieck, two worlds meet on 9 May: red brick walls, steel beams and industrial heritage from 1901 encounter the warm, agile sound of Italy.
Built in 1900/1901 by Otto Stiehl and Theodor Kampffmeyer, Kühlhaus Berlin was once the largest cold storage facility in Europe. After operations ceased in 1978, demolition loomed, until a private initiative had the building placed under heritage protection. Today it hosts art, concerts and encounters, its construction-site character deliberately preserved. On the fifth floor lies the Sonarloft, one of the most distinctive spaces for chamber music in the city.
Into this loft, Ensemble SineQuaNon Berlin, under the artistic direction of Pierluigi Ruggiero, brings its programme La Musica Italiana. Founded in 2024, the ensemble is not a fixed quartet or quintet but an international pool of outstanding chamber musicians who come together in different formations for each programme.
The line-up: Claudio Mansutti (clarinet), Luca Trabucchi and Salvatore Seminara (guitars), Sebestyén Sztathatosz and Timotej Willewaldt (violins), Maria Ronchini (viola) and Pierluigi Ruggiero (cello).
