Recap: “Advanced Writer’s Workshop with Alex David”
Over several weeks, writers from a wide range of backgrounds came together as part of the “Advanced Writer’s Workshop with Alex David” to develop and discuss their own film projects.
The focus was not on finished screenplays, but on the creative development process itself: characters, conflicts, dramatic structure, perspectives, and the question of how a first idea can evolve into a compelling story. Participants brought a diverse range of projects to the workshop—from intimate character-driven dramas and socially relevant stories to science fiction and fantasy concepts.
One of the most valuable aspects of the workshop was its open feedback culture. Each story was examined from different perspectives, challenged, and further developed. Often, it was not the answers but the right questions that helped move a project forward in a meaningful way.
The workshop was led by Oscar-nominated writer Alex David, who guided participants through the development process with his experience and dramaturgical insights. This created a creative environment where ideas could grow, evolve, and sometimes take entirely unexpected directions.
It was particularly inspiring to see how differently writers approach storytelling—and how much projects can benefit from the perspectives and experiences of others.
By the end of the workshop, participants had not only advanced their projects but also gained new insights into how stories are created, how characters come to life, and what questions writers continually face throughout the creative process.
