This community health and hygiene station is named for Ruth E. She continued as chair of Health Education until 1984.

This community health and hygiene station, named for Ruth "Betsy" Tandy, Ph.D., provides health & hygiene supplies to the community with no paperwork, no questions asked or justifications demanded, and absolutely no judgement or shame. Tandy, Ph.D., better known as "Betsy", served the in the Health, Physical Education & Recreation Department at TWU until 1980.

Interfaith Denton has once again put in the work to earn the Silver Seal of Transparency from Candid!

We hold ourselves to a high standard of transparency and accountability and we are proud of how we work to help Denton families stabilize their budgets and get through those tough months that might otherwise turn into a crisis.

When you give to Interfaith Denton, you are helping thousands of people in Denton with hygiene, diapers, bus passes, and all the other things that make it possible to get and keep a job. You help us cover utilities for people who need to use that money to cover a car repair, a medical expense, or some other emergency. In short, you help us help your neighbors stay safe and stable. We can all be proud of that.

Empty Bowls of Denton is proud to support Denton Community Food Center. Our 2025 luncheon, sponsors, and craft shows resulted in $27,500! We were able to provide Denton Community Food Center with a check of $13,750! (The other half of the money raised was given to Our Daily Bread.) Thank you to everyone who participated in any part of this effort!

DCFC served 800-900 households a month in 2024,
(9000 unique people, and
5000 unique children in that year). They distributed 1.1million pounds of food in 2024 that families can make meals from, which calculates out to just under a million meals (982,547) on local tables.

Clients (neighbors) pick up food once a month by appointment after qualifying via an on-line application process. Neighbors must live in the DCFC Service Area (21 cities, towns and communities in 31 different zip codes of Northern Denton County) and meet USDA & TDA (TX Dept of Agriculture) income qualifications.

DCFC spent around $200,000 on retail purchased food in addition to donated food to serve their clients.

DCFC provides meat, milk, eggs and produce in addition to canned/non perishables commodities. This is a unique feature for a food pantry and represents a well balanced variety of nutritious food products. Purchasing meat is a challenge since the cost of meat is so high. They strive to distribute healthy foods to meet a client’s needs, dietary restrictions, and cultural limitations while providing them some choice and dignity.

DCFC would love to open a third distribution day for clients to pick up food each week. It requires a team of 40 people committed to meeting on the same day & time every week. If you are interested in volunteering contact them via their Volunteer Link on the website www.DentonCFC.org.

Kwanzaa is a week-long, cultural celebration honoring African American heritage and values, focusing on community, family, and culture through seven principles:
Umoja (Unity),
Kujichagulia (Self-determination),
Ujima (Collective work and responsibility),
Ujamaa (Cooperative economics),
Nia (Purpose),
Kuumba (Creativity),
and Imani (Faith)

Rituals include lighting candles on a special holder (kinara) each night to focus on a principle, exchanging symbolic gifts, sharing meals, and reflection on traditions.
