We meet once a month to play three timed games of scrabble.

question 22:
In what year was Scrabble released for the first time?

And the answer:
1948

Scrabble was invented by a man named Alfred Mosher Butts. He had the idea to create something that crossed vocabulary words, crosswords and anagrams together. Scrabble was born!

Our next meeting is on 29 June 2026
• Lamb Hotel, 2 Lynn Road, Ely, Cambs, CB7 4EJ
• arrive 7 pm for 7.15 pm start (so you have time to get your drink and get settled)
• No membership/admission fee but must buy a drink from the bar
• Normally last Monday of month however some dates adjusted due to bank holidays
• Please bring:
pen, notebook,
plus scrabble board if you have one (and scrabble dictionary if you have one in case your word is challenged)

Last week's question 21:
Not counting A, E, I, O, and U (the vowels), how many tiles are there in the game of Scrabble?
The answer:
Answer: Fifty-Eight

A = 9 tiles.
E = 12 tiles.
I = 9 tiles.
O = 8 tiles.
U = 4 tiles.

9+12+9+8+4+= 42

Including the blank tiles there are 100 tiles in the game altogether. Subtract 42 from 100 and you have the remaining tiles.

100-42 = 58

Now for question 22:
In what year was Scrabble released for the first time?

This girl's name is also the second letter in the Hebrew language
And the answer:
beth
As a proper name, Beth is a common nickname for Elizabeth, which means 'God is my oath'.

Now for question 21 which is likely to be an easy one:

Last weeks, question, Question 19:
Oh, the joys of having a 'z' on your rack! Which three-letter word, meaning the male hybrid of a yak and a domestic cow, is acceptable in Scrabble for 15 points?
And the answer:
Zho
All the answers consist of a z (10 points) a vowel (1 point) and a 4 point letter for 15 points, but only zho (an acceptable alternate spelling of dzo (13 points)) is accepted.

What have we for Question 20:
This girl's name is also the second letter in the Hebrew language

Thank you all for coming tonight, glad you made it to the new venue.
