Hugo Grotius gGmbH in Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC since 2023

We take great pride and pleasure in having been granted special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations. The Council at its Management Segment on 25/07/2023 made this decision under agenda item 17: Non-Governmental Organizations, based on the recommendation of the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations on its 2023 session.

The UN Charter established ECOSOC in 1945 as one of the six main organs of the United Nations. Building on its coordination role within the UN system, ECOSOC is a gateway for UN partnership and participation by the rest of the world. It offers a unique global meeting point for productive dialogues among policymakers, parliamentarians, academics, foundations, businesses, youth and NGOs.

Particularly with our research institutes, the Institute for the Law of the Sea and International Marine Environmental Law (ISRIM) and the Institute for IT, Media and Intellectual Property Law (Institut für IT-, Medien- und Immaterialgüterrecht), we are looking forward to:

- co-operating with the United Nations,
- providing expert analysis on issues directly from our experience in the field,
- helping to implement international agreements,
- helping to raise public awareness of relevant issues,
- playing a role in advancing United Nations goals and objectives
- contributing with essential information at organization events.
