attaqueer le visible

Initially founded as a monthly screening event at La Mutinerie in Paris, "attaque[e]r le visible" is a platform for experimental film and video, which seeks to spread the fascination for it. attaque(e)r le visible is an experimental film and video platform for projections, meetings, talks, book presentations and lectures. Older experimental films and video art works as well as the most recent deve

lopments of the genre find a place here. attaque(e)r le visible is dedicated to works which perturb the consistency and illusionism of the classical film by consciously referring to the technical embeddedness of the film, its incoherence and materiality. The works on display are marked by refusing stereotypical images and linear narration, their critical position towards the co-world, normative visibilities, forms and bodies. In short, it is about films and videos which do not trust the self-evident, and for which the word ’normally‘ does not exist. attaque(e)r le visible sees itself as a platform for experimental film and video that not only creates projections but also contextualises and historicises them. For this purpose, on the one hand, we publish brochures with materials from the time when the moving images were made. On the other hand, attaque(e)r le visible counteracts the canon with the means of oral history by recording video interviews with the film makers and artists and making them freely available on the site www.attaq***rlevisible.com. After stops in Paris, Kassel and Cologne, attaque(e)r le visible now continues in Berlin in collaboration with the Raum für drastische Maßnahmen.
2021 the series consists of two parts, corporal interventions and a Videoaktion (formerly Videofest). The monthly film programme corporal interventions looks back at the experimental film and the video art history of the 70s and 80s. The Videoaktion, which takes place on three weekends, focuses current tendencies in experimental film and video.

VIDEOAKTION is a two-day anti-salon for experimental film and video, organised by attaque[e]r le visible. It presents contemporary experiments with moving images in an informal and non-competitive way, and puts them up for discussion. The focus is on coming together, exchanging ideas, and, of course, the current state of experimentation and the potential of cinematic and media interventions in the visible. We are curious about all formats, including analogue, digital, AI, ciné-performance, ciné-poem and expanded cinema. A total of approximately 30 selected films and videos will be screened in four programme blocks over two evenings. On the third day, there will be a film workshop aimed at creating a collaborative film.

Collaborative Assemblages is a four-part series of experimental film screenings that explores various facets of feminist, collaborative working methods in the 1970s and 1980s—working methods that were of vital importance to women* active in experimental film. The episodes focus on experimental film scenes in Vienna, Hamburg and Berlin.

The series is a collaboration between .bethanien and attaque[e]r le visible, curated by Lawinia Rate.

Thank you all for joining us for the screening of Barbra Hammer's films! It was lovely to share this evening with you and to watch the films on 16 mm.

Thank you so much, Frankenberg, for speaking so interestingly about Barbra Hammer's films and sharing your perspective on them. It was wonderful to have you here and to benefit from your knowledge and expertise.

We would also like to thank the Estate of Barbara Hammer . Without their generosity in sharing the archival material with us, our brochure would not have been possible.

Thank you to the whole LIGHT CONE and Electronic Arts Intermix team for providing us with copies of the films.

A big hug to R. - Raum für drastische Maßnahmenrdrastischemassnahmen for hosting us.

BARBARA HAMMER

Pleasure of Discovery
The Pleasure of Discovery film programme is dedicated to the films of Barbara Hammer, with a particular focus on those from the 1980s. While her early 1970s works are committed to social realism and emerged from a “perspective of participation”*, as Natascha Frankenberg describes, her films from the 1980s become significantly more abstract. The focus here shifts to an interest in cinematic material and form. This phase is characterised by fragmentary images, superimpositions, and a playful approach to light, colour, and texture. However, Hammer’s central concern remains the same: the depiction of le***an desire. She explores how non-normative sexualities and identities can be made visible through abstract, poetic and unfamiliar visual languages. Thus, her films from this period are not only formal experiments, but also q***r-political interventions.

After the screening, there will be a discussion with Natascha Frankenberg, a media studies scolar,
