43 % ! On avance.

Our crowdfunding campaign will fund the first phase of Pink Silence Avignon.

This October, we want to collect testimonies, publicly dye sheets donated by hospitals, then embroider and paint them together with local associations and people from Avignon.

Step by step, these 365 sheets will become a collective artwork shaped by stories, experiences and shared gestures.

To make this first phase happen, we need your support.

Support Pink Silence and share the campaign with your network.

Why Pink Silence began in South India in 2015?

In this short interview, artist Bogna Jaroslawski tells the story of the first installation, created with 15 Dalit women and a group of students.

Together, they made 365 pink bamboo poles, each carrying a story of violence, silence and resilience.

From this first artwork, Pink Silence grew into a movement involving more than 200 women and received the International Social Art Award in 2021

Today, the project continues its journey from India to France...

A new chapter is beginning.

🔴 When silence becomes visible (Version française au dessous)

Yes, we talk about violence against women.

But we still do not talk about it enough.

Globally, nearly one in three women has experienced physical or sexual violence during her lifetime. And new forms of violence continue to emerge and intensify, including digital abuse, deepfakes, and the amplifying effects of crises such as extreme heat.

But behind the numbers are experiences that are often difficult to share. Because of fear, shame, the risk of exposure, or simply because words are hard to find.

Pink Silence was born from this reality.

In 2015, Bogna Grażyna Jaroslawski launched the project in Auroville and Pondicherry, India. Together with local partners, students from the Auroville Institute of Applied Technology and women from the Auroville Village Action Group created a large scale installation made of 365 pink bamboo sticks.

Each bamboo carried an anonymous message written in Tamil or English.

Around 200 people took part in the process, many of them women from rural Dalit communities. Through collective making, anonymity, and public presentation, the project opened spaces for dialogue without requiring participants to expose themselves personally.

Pink Silence later continued in Avignon, where students transformed research, anonymous testimonies, and months of collective work into seven public installations presented across the city for International Women's Day.

Today, a new chapter is beginning.

Over the coming weeks, we will share the story behind the project, the methods, the people involved, and the shape this next installation may take.

Before asking for support, we want to show what we are building, why we are building it, and what your support could make possible.

WHAT IS A SOCIAL SCULPTURE?

Was ist eine soziale Skulptur?* Deutsche Fassung unten.
Qu'est-ce qu'une sculpture sociale? *version française en dessous.

_________🇬🇧 ENGLISH VERSION__________

A social sculpture is a collective artwork created with people and for people.

It uses artistic processes to make social questions visible in public space, to open dialogue, encourage participation, and create new perspectives.

The process matters as much as the final form. Because the artwork is not only what we see at the end. It also includes the relationships, experiences, and transformations that emerge while it is being created.

In Germany, this idea is strongly connected to Joseph Beuys, who planted 7000 oak trees in Kassel in the 1980s. By planting trees together with residents, he showed that an artwork can transform a city.

The images below show examples of social sculptures, including a project developed by Masterpiece for Good Pink Silence in India. Teeter-totter wall from Rael San Fratello at the Mexican/US border and zapatos rojos from Elina Chauvet.

_________🇩🇪 DEUTSCHE FASSUNG__________
