Die Deutsche Jazzunion: 50 Jahre im Dienste des Jazz!

Seit 50 Jahren vertritt die Deutsche Jazzunion (ehemals Union Deutscher Jazzmusiker) die Interessen der Jazzmusiker*innen in Deutschland gegenüber gesetzgeberischen, politischen und kulturfördernden Instanzen auf Bundesebene. Die Deutsche Jazzunion wurde im Jahre 1973 von renommierten Persönlichkeiten der Jazzs

zene ins Leben gerufen und hat sich mit heute rund 1.500 Mitgliedern als wichtige kulturpolitische Ansprechpartnerin in Deutschland etabliert. Die Veröffentlichung der Jazzstudie 2016 markiert einen wichtigen Erfolg unserer Arbeit und war Ausgangspunkt für viele positive Entwicklungen wie die Gründung des Bundesfonds für zeitgenössische Musik: Die Deutsche Jazzunion ist Gründungs-, Vorstands- und Kuratoriumsmitglied dieses mit Mitteln der Bundesbeauftragten für Kultur und Medien ausgestatteten Musikfonds. In enger Zusammenarbeit mit der Bundeskonferenz Jazz, LAGs, IGs und jazznahen Institutionen und Verbänden wurden zahlreiche weitere Meilensteine auf dem Weg zu angemessenen Lebens- und Arbeitsbedingungen für JazzmusikerInnen in Deutschland erreicht. Dies zeigt sich auch in einer deutlich verbesserten gesellschaftlichen und politischen Wahrnehmung. Die Deutsche Jazzunion ist in nationalen und internationalen Gremien und Organisationen vertreten. Dazu gehören neben der BKJazz und dem Musikfonds auch der Deutsche Musikrat, die Kulturpolitische Gesellschaft, die Allianz der Freien Künste, die Initiative Urheberrecht und die Künstlersozialkasse. 1. Die Deutsche Jazzunion ist das Sprachrohr aller Jazzmusiker*innen in Deutschland. Als Interessenvertretung leisten wir Lobbyarbeit auf Bundesebene für die Bekanntmachung und Durchsetzung gemeinsamer Positionen und Ziele.

2. Als Berufs- und Fachverband auf Bundesebene bieten wir Möglichkeiten für Austausch mit Musiker*innen in ganz Deutschland sowie Vernetzung mit spartenübergreifenden Initiativen.

3. Gemeinsam sorgen wir für mehr gesellschaftliche und politische Wahrnehmung des Jazz in und aus Deutschland - z.B. durch Auszeichnung etablierter Jazzgrößen mit dem Albert-Mangelsdorff-Preis und herausragender Nachwuchskünstler mit dem Sonderpreis der Deutschen Jazzunion.

Die Deutsche Jazzunion setzt sich als Interessenvertretung aller Jazzmusikerinnen und Jazzmusiker in Deutschland insbesondere für die folgenden Ziele ein:

1. SPEZIFISCHE FÖRDERUNG FÜR JAZZ UND IMPROVISIERTE MUSIK
Ausbau öffentlicher Förderung, Ausgestaltung bestehender und neuer Förderinstrumente auf Bundesebene. Jazz-ExpertInnen in relevanten Institutionen.

2. SPIELSTÄTTEN
Ausbau der öffentlichen Förderung von Spielstätten für Jazz und improvisierte Musik, Schaffung von ausfinanzierten Jazzzentren. Stärkere Förderung durch Länder und Kommunen.

3. ANGEMESSENE VERGÜTUNG UND SOZIALE ABSICHERUNG
Sicherstellung angemessener Vergütung. Mindest- und langfristig faire Gagen, Stärkung der sozialen Absicherung insbesondere durch Ausbau der Künstlersozialkasse.

4. BILDUNG UND LEHRE
Jazz und improvisierte Musik als fester Bestandteil der Lehrpläne an Schulen, Reduzierung prekärer Arbeitsverhältnisse in der Lehre.

5. INTERESSENVERBÄNDE UND NETZWERKE
Stärkung der Verbands- und Netzwerkstrukturen als Interessenvertretungen aller JazzmusikerInnen.

6. JAZZ IN DEN MEDIEN
Stärkere Präsenz des Jazz in allen Medien; angemessene Sendeplätze, zeitgemäße und spannende Konzepte und Programme in öffentlich-rechtlichen Rundfunkanstalten.

THE GERMAN JAZZ UNION: PROMOTING JAZZ SINCE 1973. For 50 years, the German Jazz Union has been representing the interests of jazz musicians in Germany towards legislative and political bodies, as well as institutions promoting culture at a federal level. The German Jazz Union has established itself, with currently around 1,500 members, as an important cultural-political body. Since the publication of the Jazz Study 2016, considerable milestones regarding the living and working conditions for jazz musicians in Germany have been achieved. The German Jazz Union represents the interests of all jazz musicians in Germany and is particularly committed to the following goals:

1. SPECIFIC FUNDING FOR JAZZ AND IMPROVISED MUSIC Expansion of public funding, design of existing and new funding instruments at federal level. Jazz experts in relevant institutions.

2. VENUES Expansion of public funding for jazz and improvised music venues, creation of fully financed jazz centers. Stronger support from the federal states and local authorities.

3. FAIR COMPENSATION AND SOCIAL SECURITY Ensuring appropriate compensation. Short term minimum and long term fair fees for musicians, strengthening of social security, in particular through the expansion of the German Social Fund for Artists (Künstlersozialkasse).

4. EDUCATION AND TEACHING Jazz and improvised music as an integral part of school curricula, reduction of unstable working conditions in teaching.

5. INTEREST GROUPS AND NETWORKS Strengthening of interest groups and network structures by stronger representation of the interests of all jazz musicians.

6. JAZZ IN THE MEDIA Stronger presence of jazz in all media; appropriate broadcasting slots, contemporary and exciting concepts and programs in public broadcasting.
