Public Art Lab

Public Art Lab Public Art Lab (PAL) is an urban media art platform Since 2007 PAL investigates the communicative and cultural potential of urban screens and media facades.

Public Art Lab (PAL) is a Berlin based platform of experts in the fields of urban planning, new media art and IT in Berlin, directed by curator Susa Pop. PAL realises networking urban art projects that catalyse artistic processes and public awareness in temporarily occupied urban settings. They encourage audiences to participate in the creative process and experience their daily environment from d

ifferent perspectives. These projects aim at fostering community development, identity building and communication among the city inhabitants. Such exemplary projects include nomadic communities like Mobile Museums (2004) and Mobile Studios (2006), Mobicases (2007, 2009, 2011) and Round Table Ukraine (2011-2013). In an action research process PAL initiated the pilot project of the Media Facades Festival Berlin 2008 together with the urban planner Mirjam Struppek, the German Architecture Center (DAZ), Berlin and the Media Architecture Institute, Vienna. Berlin-based artists have been invited to develop a participatory art project for the commercially used media facades and urban screens around Berlin. In 2010 PAL continued the Media Facades Festival on a European level by connecting 7 cities through the medium of urban screens. The participating cities and partners have been: iMAL / Brussels, m-cult / Helsinki, FACT / Liverpool, Ars Electronica Futurelab / Linz, Medialab-Prado / Madrid and Kitchen Budapest supported by the European Union / Culture Programme 2007-2013. Together with the German Ministry of Science and Education PAL organised the Innovation Forum Urban Screens 2011 which consisted of 5 expert workshops and a 2 days conference. In this context and in cooperation with the worldwide and local network of Public Art Lab, Susa Pop published the handbook Urban Media Cultures (avedition2012) .

Europe’s role in the world is shifting fast. With geopolitical tensions rising and the EU under pressure to step up, a new generation is shaping what Europe becomes next. But what does it actually mean to work in and around the EU? Who are the people inside the system, and how does influence really work from within?

Join our third online Resonance seminar as we open the doors to the EU as a workplace, beyond the stereotypes of bureaucracy and “Brussels bubbles.” From non-linear careers to cross-border lives, we explore what it’s really like to build a future inside Europe’s political ecosystem.

Speakers
• Lena Schilling - Austrian climate activist and Member of the European Parliament (Greens/EFA). From grassroots movements to EU policy, she works on climate justice, democracy and youth participation.

• Anna Strolenberg - Member of the European Parliament for Volt Europa. Focused on women’s rights, migration, agriculture, transparency and citizen participation in EU policymaking.

Discover how careers inside the EU really work, how power flows, how influence is built, and how a new generation is redefining Europe from the inside.

ECHO organizes Resonance Seminars which can be tuned into from anywhere, bringing together thinkers and creatives to inspire a
new wave of young people building Europe for the better.

ECHO is a dynamic European initiative that engages young people with democracy through art and culture. Led by DE/MO (NL), ECHO unites partners, Bios (GR), Espronceda (ES), Fine Acts (BU), and Public Art Lab (DE) to address five urgencies of our society: AI, climate change, biodiversity, democracy, and migration. Through thematic ECHO Academies in the EU partners’ cities, young creatives have been learning about these pressing issues and design impactful artistic campaigns that make complex topics accessible and engaging.

Boiling Media Art 🫖
An evening for works in the making.
31 January, 5-10pm @ Public Art Lab
As part of Vorspiel 2026 initiated by transmediale & CTM celebrating Berlin’s independent art spaces, Public Art Lab invites you to Boiling Media Art on 31st January.

This is not a showcase of finished works, but a shared moment of becoming: emerging media artists open their processes, experiments, and questions across sound, audiovisual, performance, visual and research-based practices. Feedback flows as dialogue.

As Public Art Lab, we will also present Future DiverCities, a collaborative pilot project that demonstrates how sensitive mapping and narratives can explore the relationships between
the park and the river, their ecosystems, and the surrounding communities..

Soup, tea, conversation, and ideas simmering together.
Artists & works will be announced soon!
