The UK Government has announced plans to rejoin the EU’s Erasmus+ programme in 2027, six years after leaving the scheme as part of the EU withdrawal agreement.
The return of Erasmus+ will once again provide transformative opportunities for more Czech students to study at Oxford and Cambridge. The programme enables participants to study or undertake internships in another country for periods ranging from two to twelve months.
For Oxbridge staff, Erasmus+ supports professional development, fosters innovation, and strengthens collaboration with leading institutions across Europe.
It’s very welcome that the Erasmus student exchange programme will be returning in 2027. This initiative provides life changing opportunities for college learners and staff alike – broadening horizons, building confidence and improving employability for students, particularly students from countries such as the Czech Republic.
For Oxford and Cambridge themselves, participation brings significant benefits, including improved retention and attainment, curriculum innovation and stronger international networks that reinforce both universities’ global reputation for vocational excellence.
With the last 5 years having seen a marked reduction in Czech students at both Oxford and Cambridge, and whilst this will not take us back to pre-Brexit opportunity levels, we at OCAS can only welcome this amazing piece of news.
