Helenia, a lovely cat supporter from Italy, contacted us during one of her regular visits to Paphos.
She was worried about Noir, a black fluffball she looks after whenever she is in Cyprus. He lives at the Kato Paphos cemetery and had a badly infected abscess. She also sent me photos of another cemetery cat with cancer who, sadly, didn’t make it despite being taken to the vet.
While helping Noir, we noticed another girl who looked very unwell. She wasn’t coming to eat and was sitting surrounded by flies.
It took two attempts to catch her, although in the end she didn’t even need a trap. Daniela, who feeds the cemetery cats and has gained their trust, simply picked her up and placed her in a carrier.
At the clinic, they found that she had terribly rotten teeth as well as cat flu. She was also severely dehydrated, so the vets kept her in for 48 hours before she was strong enough to be operated on. She was spayed and had her painful teeth removed.
We named her Hope. ❤️
Two weeks later, I received a lovely video of her from my friends and fellow volunteers, Maria and Julia. After work, they spend their evenings walking between many colonies on that side of Paphos to feed the cats and look after them.
Hope is doing really well and has already put on some weight. For this little girl, life has completely changed.
There are still at least six unspayed females living at the cemetery, so there is much more work to do.
