💧 Water Routes

The educational workshop Water Routes for university students, designed and facilitated by Elena Panagiotou in collaboration with Dr. Andri Savva of the University of Cyprus, formed an important part of the exhibition Fluid Persistence, presented at NiMAC from December 2025 to May 2026.

Through interactive and hands-on activities, the workshop explored questions of identity, mapping, ecology, and the politics of place and landscape. Participants were invited to investigate the relationships between water, memory, and environment, developing new ways of understanding and connecting with the places they inhabit.

Educational programmes are an integral part of our work NiMAC and an important way of building meaningful connections between contemporary art, research, and younger audiences. Through initiatives such as Water Routes, we aim to bring young people closer to art, fostering participation, dialogue, and critical engagement with socio-political issues.

📚 Τhe educational material is available on our website.

Marinos Houtris (b. 1991) is a Cyprus-based artist whose work moves through sound, photography, installation, and artistic research. His practice follows traces of infrastructure, landscape, and urban transformation, attending to what remains hidden, peripheral, or difficult to perceive directly. Sedef Karayel (b. 1991, Cyprus) lives and works between Cyprus and Berlin. Working across painting and clay, her practice investigates memory, perception, and embodied experience through intuition. Drawn from personal experience or observation, she creates layered, atmospheric spaces that function as sites of excavation, where traces of absence and remembrance emerge through material processes.

🌑 In Praise of Shadows
15 June - 26 July 2026

Adonis Archontides (b. 1991, Limassol, Cyprus) is a multidisciplinary artist working across imaging, sculpture, installation, and drawing. His practice stems from photography and illustration, and has since branched out into a broader sense of image-making that includes 3D scanning, simulation, and the videogame as both subject and medium. He works across the real, the fictional, the simulated, and the dreamt as parallel layers of existence, exploring how stories, selves, places, and images persist, repeat, and degrade as they pass between them. The work is often playful or introspective, sometimes both at once. He has previously shown at NiMAC; The Island Club, Limassol; Phenomenon Anafi; Milan Machinima Festival and Upper Ankyle, Athens, amongst others.

🌑 In Praise of Shadows
15 June - 26 July 2026

Christina Karava .karava is a new media artist. Her practice focuses on the communication among and between sound, moving image and space, through the use of narrative and site-specific installation. Her artistic practice revolves around the idea of ‘art imitates life, imitates art’, focusing on the documentation of fragments of reality that capture a more intimate dimension to the human experience. She utilises recurring thoughts and inner monologues for the creation of narratives that transform the exhibiting space into a visual representation of troubled contemplation, questioning of an uncomfortable situation and an expression of inexplicable frustrations. Because of this, her works feature an invisible narrator who drops the audience into a moment of reality that only exists in that specific moment, in that particular space.
