As we navigate the vibrant rhythm of the Jewish year here in Cyprus, I want to take a moment to reflect on the tireless work that happens behind the scenes of the JCC Friends Association.

Being Jewish in Cyprus is about more than just tradition; it is about continuity, connection, and community. Our team works hard 365 days a year to ensure that the Jewish calendar isn't just a list of dates, but a living, breathing experience for every family on the island.

From the quiet reflection of the High Holidays to the joy of Chanukah and Purim, our association is dedicated to bringing you:

Educational Lectures: Engaging our minds with history, ethics, and contemporary Jewish thought.

Cultural Programs: Celebrating our heritage through music, food, and the arts.

Community Events: Creating spaces where our children and seniors alike can feel at home and connected to their roots.

Our strength as a community is also measured by our relationship with the beautiful island we call home. For many years, the Jewish Community of Cyprus has enjoyed a deep and fruitful relationship with the Cypriot people. We work closely with local partners and neighbors, built on a foundation of mutual respect and shared values. This spirit of cooperation is what makes our community programs so successful and our presence here so meaningful.

This work is only possible because of your support. Whether you attend a lecture, volunteer your time, or support our initiatives, you are a vital part of this journey. Together, we are ensuring that Jewish life in Cyprus continues to thrive and grow.

Wishing you all a season of health, growth, and togetherness.

Warmly,

Mr. Yaron Zeloof
Chairman, JCC Friends Association

Can you help the Jewish Community of Cyprus?

Lag B’Omer is just 24 hours away

We urgently need to renovate our mikvah, can you help?

As Lag BaOmer approaches, preparations are underway across the Jewish Community of Cyprus to mark the day with the appropriate programs and gatherings.

The JCC Friends Association is proud to work alongside the community in supporting these efforts, helping ensure that the practical and communal needs around the holiday are met.

Our role, as always, is to partner in strengthening Jewish life in Cyprus, whether through holiday programming, infrastructure, or ongoing community support.

Lag BaOmer is one of many moments throughout the year where this partnership comes into focus, as the community continues to grow and develop.

We remain committed to supporting these efforts and to being part of the continued growth of Jewish life in Cyprus.

Help Israel

Due to the current crisis in our region, hundreds of Israelis have been stranded in Cyprus after their flights to Israel were cancelled. Many are traveling with families and are facing unexpected costs for accommodation, food, and transportation. Some are even without essential medication.

In this difficult moment, these families are turning to the local Jewish community for help.

Together with the Jewish Community of Cyprus, we are working to provide emergency assistance, including food, temporary shelter, and basic necessities until flights are able to resume.

Your support can make a real difference.

Please help us assist these families in their time of need.

This year, I had the profound honor of participating in the Holocaust Remembrance Day ceremonies. Reflecting on the memories of those who suffered and perished, and listening to the stories of resilience, reminded me of the importance of preserving their legacy and ensuring that such atrocities are never forgotten.

It was a humbling experience to stand alongside our community in remembrance, and I am grateful for the opportunity to honor those whose lives were lost and those who survived against all odds. May we continue to teach, remember, and act with compassion and vigilance.

A great update from the Jewish Community Cyprus - εβραϊκή κοινότητα Κύπροu

Architecture of Hope Visits the Jewish Museum and Jewish Community of Cyprus

This week, the Architecture of Hope initiative, an international campaign for peace and understanding — visited the Jewish Museum of Cyprus and the Jewish Community of Cyprus.

The delegation was led by Hedi Bouden, Cultural Officer and Theatre Director, who heads this meaningful project. The visitors were warmly welcomed by the Chief Rabbi of Cyprus, Rabbi Arie Zeev Raskin, who shared words of inspiration about unity, peace, and the power of dialogue between people and cultures.

The project “Architecture of Hope” is an international artistic and educational initiative that uses theatre, film, and art to build spaces of dialogue, remembrance, and hope among young people from different backgrounds — especially between German youth with migration and Muslim backgrounds from the Helmut-Schmidt High School in Hamburg, Jewish Israeli students from the Shaar HaNegev High School in Sderot, and Arab Israeli students from Desert Stars in Rahat.

In Cyprus, the project continues its journey of remembrance and reconciliation — linking the memory of the past with the possibility of rebuilding and coexistence. Through art, performance, and dialogue, Architecture of Hope empowers young people to transform memory into creative responsibility, to meet beyond stereotypes, and to build new “architectures” of trust, empathy, and shared humanity.

The Jewish Community of Cyprus warmly welcomes such peaceful and creative initiatives that promote understanding, respect, and harmony among peoples. Together, we reaffirm our commitment to unity, compassion, and the shared hope for a brighter future.
