Yesterday was incredible.

Because of your generosity, we raised $275 in just one day toward opening Un Plato Más

That may seem like a small number compared to our $11,200 goal, but every journey starts somewhere. More importantly, it tells us that people believe in this mission.

Now let's keep the momentum going.

The funds we're raising will allow us to open a fully functioning community kitchen in Havana. Right now, we're working toward purchasing:

- Solar power system -$4,500
- Screened windows to keep flies out of the kitchen - $1,200
- Split A/C for the kitchen - $900
- To-go containers -$600
- Electric triciclo for deliveries and supply runs - $4,000

Every donation, no matter the amount, brings us one step closer to opening a kitchen that will provide meals for children, elderly neighbors, and families in Havana who need them most.

August is a special month for Cuban Aid Alliance because our founder is celebrating a birthday.

When we asked what he wanted this year, the answer was simple: "Help me open Un Plato Más."

Many of you have followed this project from the beginning. Un Plato Más will be more than a soup kitchen. It will be a community kitchen where we can prepare fresh meals for children, elderly neighbors, and families in Havana while creating a place where the community can gather with dignity.

To open our doors, we still need a few major items:

- Solar power system: $4,500
- To-go containers: $600
- Screened windows to keep flies out of the kitchen: $1,200
- Split A/C for the kitchen: $900
- Electric triciclo for deliveries and supply runs: $4,000

Total remaining goal: $11,200

I've been traveling to Cuba for a long time.
I've watched conditions get worse year after year, but I have never seen anything like what I witnessed last week.
These aren't photos from decades ago. They were taken in 2026.
Twenty-hour blackouts have become commonplace in Havana. In many rural parts of the country, they're even longer. Without fuel, power plants can't keep the lights on. Without electricity, water pumps stop working. Families walk blocks carrying jugs just to have enough water to drink, cook, bathe, and wash clothes.
Children should be playing outside—not hauling water home for their families.

Without fuel, garbage trucks can't make their routes. Trash sits in the streets for days or weeks, creating health hazards in neighborhoods that are already struggling. Families cook over charcoal because they have no other choice. They wash clothes by hand because washing machines are useless without electricity.
The fuel restrictions and the inability to obtain critical parts needed to keep Cuba's aging power grid running have made life even harder for ordinary Cubans.

Whatever your political beliefs are, it's the Cuban people who are living with the consequences every single day.
That's why I started Cuban Aid Alliance.

One of these photos shows the home of Un Plato Más, our community soup kitchen. Our goal is simple: serve dependable, nutritious meals to anyone who needs one.
But even keeping food safe has become a challenge. Right now, we're forced to rely on buying ice every day because of the constant blackouts. That's money that should be feeding people. Our next major goal is to install solar panels and battery storage so our refrigerators can stay running even when the power is out. Reliable electricity will allow us to cook, store food safely, and serve meals no matter what happens to the grid.

For the past year and a half, I've poured everything I have into this mission.
Despite all the work, fundraising events, and countless hours, we've raised only about $2,000. Every dollar has gone directly toward helping Cuban families survive. I haven't even been able to put enough aside to fully launch Un Plato Más.
I'll be honest—it's frustrating.
But I'm not giving up.
We're planning benefit concerts, community yard sales here in Memphis, and other fundraisers to make this kitchen a reality.

Today we were out in the streets of Habana Vieja handing out picadillo and rice to those who needed it most.

No lines. No questions asked. Just food in people’s hands who haven’t had a solid meal in who knows how long.

This is what Cuban Aid Alliance is about. Real help, directly to the people.

But the truth is, we can do a lot more.

Cuban Aid Alliance is about helping real families in Cuba who are struggling to get basic food, cooking fuel, and everyday necessities. The situation right now is tough. Prices are high, supplies are inconsistent, and a lot of people are just trying to get through the week.

Thanks to the generosity of people who believe in helping their neighbors, Cuban Aid Alliance has been able to purchase over $1,000 worth of groceries and cooking gas tanks for families in Havana.
These supplies go directly to families who are struggling to find basic necessities. Food shortages and the lack of cooking fuel have made daily life extremely difficult for many households, and something as simple as a bag of groceries or a full gas tank for cooking can make a real difference.
