The Sloth Conservation Foundation

The Sloth Conservation Foundation Scientific research and conservation initiatives to protect sloths in the wild.

The Sloth Conservation Foundation (SloCo) is a registered non-profit organisation dedicated to saving sloths in the wild through research and conservation initiatives. Based on the belief that teamwork and collaboration are essential for success, it is the mission of SloCo to bring together all people, partners, and institutions working globally with sloths to achieve lasting conservation solution

s. Founded on the idea that every single person has the ability to make a positive difference, the Sloth Conservation Foundation aims to stimulate progressive change through the education of local communities and lobbying for change at a government level. We are focused on inspiring individuals to care about sloths, to protect the rainforest ecosystem and to safeguard a future for the planet that we all share.

As Costa Rica moves closer to passing legislation requiring wildlife crossings in new road infrastructure projects, thousands of wild animals still face roads that fragment habitats and put their lives at risk.

The proposed law recently cleared an important legislative hurdle and could soon become law, helping ensure safer passage for wildlife and better ecosystem connectivity.

At The Sloth Conservation Foundation, we're already taking action by designing and implementing safe crossing solutions that reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions and reconnect habitats for sloths and many other species.

Every wildlife crossing is a step toward a safer future for wildlife.

Meet Deborah 🦥💚

Deborah’s story is one of resilience. After a difficult start in life and multiple rescues, she beat the odds, thrived in the wild, and is now a proud mother. By adopting Deborah, you'll follow her real-life journey through GPS tracking, exclusive field updates, photos, and stories from our research team. Most importantly, your support helps protect wild sloths and the forests they call home. 🌿

This month, we teamed up with the experts from Costa Rica Flying Labs to learn how drone technology can help us map forests, assess habitat connectivity, and track changes across the landscape.

By combining these aerial insights with years of sloth census data, we're building large-scale maps of sloth populations across Costa Rica.

Every early morning spent counting sloths is helping us better understand where sloths thrive, where they face challenges, and how habitat fragmentation affects their future.
