Guayabo Animal Rescue is a 300-acre sanctuary in Guayabo de Bagaces, Costa Rica, saving animals through rescue, adoptions, spay/neuter, education, and community support. Welcome to Guayabo Animal Rescue and Sanctuary

Nestled in the serene province of Guanacaste, Costa Rica, Guayabo Animal Rescue and Sanctuary spans 300 acres of pristine wilderness. Our dedicated team rescues, rehabilitates, and r

ehomes dogs, giving them a chance at a loving home. We also operate a pet food bank, providing essential support to families struggling to care for their pets during tough times. Our efforts extend beyond dogs; we rescue and care for horses, goats, and even have two adorable cows who have found safety and love with us. A cornerstone of our mission is our spay and neuter programs and medical support initiatives. These critical efforts help prevent overpopulation and ensure every animal receives the care they deserve. Additionally, we engage local school children through our educational programs, teaching them compassion and responsibility towards animals and the environment. Preserving our 300-acre sanctuary is crucial. It's not just a home for our animals but also a haven for wildlife, protected and cherished for generations to come. Guayabo Animal Rescue also offers eco-tourism opportunities for guests from around the world. Visitors can enjoy overnight stays in our spacious villa accommodations and explore our property on rescue horses, ATVs, or hiking trails. Be on the lookout for Howler monkeys, toucans, rare and beautiful butterflies, or even an elusive sloth. Guests will also be able to view stunning sunrises and sunsets from our wrap-around porches, alongside our free-roaming rescue dogs who can’t wait to love on you. We are more than an organization. We are a community, united by a shared passion to be the voice for the voiceless. Join us in our mission to save lives and make a lasting impact. Together, we can create a brighter future for animals in need and the people who love them. Guayabo Animal Rescue and Sanctuary: Where compassion meets action.

Meet our latest rescues - six puppies and their momma. Found living in a high traffic area abandoned and fending for themselves. Starving, sick, and near death — like many we save — we got to them just in time! We aren’t sure of what their outcomes will be, and because of your support we can do our best to save them! We got you sweet pups - we got you! 💓🙏🏻🐾🇨🇷🫶🏼

🐾 Hi. Maya here. I have an important announcement… apparently I’ve been promoted to Head Puppy Supervisor. Somehow I am responsible for trying to keep OVER 40 puppies in line and let me tell you… these kids are a LOT. 😅 Some cry. Some wrestle. Some chew things they shouldn’t. Some think bedtime is optional. And honestly? Nobody listens to me.

The humans keep saying things like, “Maya, be patient,” but I’m trying my best over here. The hard part though? Many of these puppies didn’t arrive healthy.

Some came to us with no moms at all, which means special milk, bottle feedings, extra care, and lots of sleepless nights for the humans. Others arrived needing more medical help than just vaccines and dewormer — medications, treatment, extra veterinary care, and lots of TLC.

And when the humans found some of the moms? Many of them needed medical help too. So… even though I’m clearly very busy trying to run this puppy operation, I wanted to ask for help.

💓 We are trying to raise $1,800 for our medical fund so my friends can keep getting the care they need. If you can donate — even a little — it would mean the world to us. Every dollar helps with medical care, vaccines, medications, and emergency treatment.

If you can’t donate, maybe you can share this? I’m learning that humans helping humans who help puppies is how magic happens. ✨

Now if you’ll excuse me, someone just peed where they weren’t supposed to.

Love,
Maya 🐶

🐾Helping people and animals — one clinic at a time. At Guayabo Animal Rescue & Sanctuary, our veterinary clinic provides more than medical care — we provide hope. Through vaccines, spay/neuter, treatment, and education, we help families keep their beloved pets healthy and thriving. 🐾

In Costa Rica, access to veterinary care can be limited, but compassion shouldn’t be. Together, we are preventing suffering, strengthening communities, and saving lives every single day. 🇨🇷🐶🐱💓

Thank you for helping make this possible! 🙌

🐾 Help Us Spread the Word — Spay & Neuter Saves Lives 🐾
We are bringing our next spay and neuter campaign to Guayabal, La Torre, Aguas Claras, Las Armenias, Las Milpas, and Río Negro. Reaching more remote communities is key to reducing pet overpopulation and preventing suffering.

You can help by printing and posting this flyer, sharing this post, and encouraging others to sterilize their pets. Together, we can reduce the number of sick, starving, and abandoned dogs and cats while helping more families access critical care like vaccines, deworming, and medical support. Cost is determined by type, size, and weight, but we assure you if you are in need reach out for pricing - we can discuss a plan for your situation. 💕

It takes all of us to save lives. Thank you for caring. 🐶🐱🇨🇷🐾

“Hey everyone — I was adopted by Navy in Boston, Massachusetts last month and oh it’s so fun! I have two siblings and a lot of toys. I like to take all the toys and bury them in my soft bed. I like Boston but it’s colder than Costa Rica — a lot colder! 🙌 I’ll keep in touch for sure and thanks to all of you for supporting me and Guayabo Animal Rescue!” says Manchas 💓🐾

Happy, happy tails all around💛 Many of our sweet dogs recently found loving homes, and honestly, moments like these were so needed. Rescue work can be emotional and exhausting at times as you’ve seen from our last post 💔, but seeing these animals safe, loved, and thriving makes every challenge worth it.

✨ Miel and Zeus were adopted by Wendy and Jose.

✨ Oso was adopted by Ronald — and what a transformation this sweet boy has made. Oso came to us with a literal hole in his head from untreated injuries. Today he is healed, incredibly loving, and finally getting the life he always deserved.

✨ Ana (known by many past guests as “Coconuts” because she carried coconuts around 😂🥥) was adopted alongside her friend Canela by David and Nicole, meaning these two girls get to stay together.🫶🏼

✨ Tobito, one of Bambi’s puppies, was adopted by Rosa for her son Jose, who had been dreaming of having a dog of his own. His happiness was priceless.

✨ And last but certainly not least, Lucas — another one of Bambi’s puppies — was adopted by Leuner.

These are the moments that remind us why spay/neuter, rescue, education, and compassion matter so deeply. Every adoption changes not just an animal’s life, but a family’s life too. We will miss all of you, and yes — we will keep in touch.
