💜 Mary's Story: A Story of Resilience 💜
Mary Wambui, 26, is a mother who made the courageous decision to seek help and enrolled in a Medically Assisted Therapy (MAT) programme in 2023. 🌱
But on 13 February 2026, after receiving her treatment, she was arrested and spent four days in custody without access to her medication. Unable to pay a court fine of Ksh 5,000, she was sent to prison for the first time. There, interruptions to her treatment led to painful withdrawal symptoms.
"I tried to explain my situation, but no one listened," Mary shared.
✨ Hope came when a Women Nest field officer identified Mary during a MAT clinic visit. Women Nest followed up on her case, secured her release, and later supported her with rent and food as she restarted her life.
Today, Mary is back on her treatment journey and working to rebuild her future, one step at a time. 💪🏾🌷
Mary's story is not unique. It reminds us that women who use drugs deserve healthcare, dignity, and support—not punishment. 🤝🏾
Every woman deserves a second chance. 💜
