"A lack of resources should not prevent a journalist from telling important stories," Malangi Nzombola, our media ambassador from Zambia, said during the 2026 Belt and Road Journalists Forum.

From factory floors to construction sites, Malangi has documented Chinese investment projects across Zambia, exploring their impact on local employment, infrastructure and economic development. Working primarily with a mobile phone, she has continued to capture stories that matter, despite limited access to professional equipment. Her experiences also underscore the importance of balanced reporting that gives local communities a voice and examines both the opportunities and challenges of development cooperation.

"From Chancay to Shanghai is about mutual benefit, common development, and, more than anything, the happiness of ordinary people," Xi Yue, our media ambassador from Xinhua News Agency, said during the 2026 Belt and Road Journalists Forum.

Drawing on her years stationed in Latin America, Xi focused on how Peru's Chancay Port narrows the enormous geographic divide between China and Latin America. She told the story of Jares, a young Peruvian engineer whose career and income greatly improved as the port took shape and officially opened. She emphasized that the port has significantly shortened travel time across the Pacific, bringing people from the two distant continents much closer. For Xi, journalism captures how Belt and Road projects shrink perceived distance between far-off nations, bring real-world gains to local residents, and advance mutually-beneficial common development despite being worlds apart.

Today marks the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Red Army's Long March in China. But what exactly was the Long March? Why does it still resonate with generations of Chinese people nine decades later?

Back in 1936, American journalist Edgar Snow crossed military blockades to reach a region largely closed to the outside world. There, he met Red Army leaders and heard firsthand accounts of the Long March. His book, Red Star Over China, brought one of the earliest detailed accounts of this historic journey to international readers, describing it as an "odyssey unequaled in modern times."

Now, thanks to modern technology, scenes from Snow's journey can be visually recreated, bringing his reporting to life almost like a documentary filmed at the time.

Watch this video from China Xinhua News to revisit the Long March through the eyes of a journalist who helped bring its story to the world.

"For us journalists, chasing the unknown and uncovering the truth isn't just a job—it's our calling, our driving force. Let's use words to close gaps, use images to record hope," Zhang Zhiwen, our media ambassador from People's Daily, said during the 2026 Belt and Road Journalists Forum.

Having witnessed the devastating impact of conflict during his years reporting in the Middle East, Zhang reflected on the value of peace and development. He also recalled his joint reporting trips with journalists from Egypt, Ghana and Kyrgyzstan, where they witnessed firsthand how Belt and Road projects were transforming local communities. For Zhang, journalism is not just about documenting events, but also about giving voice to people's hopes for peace, prosperity and a better future.

"Looking back at my reporting, the presence of Chinese technology in Indonesia has been one of the most interesting topics for me. I have learned that this partnership is not just about business expansion, but also about how both sides can adapt to each other's regulations and find mutually beneficial solutions," Dinda Buana Putri, our media ambassador from Indonesia, said during the 2026 Belt and Road Journalists Forum.

This year, we welcomed eight media ambassadors to our Home of Journalists family, further strengthening our global network of media professionals.

Drawing on her coverage of TikTok Shop and DeepSeek in Indonesia, Dinda highlighted the importance of mutual respect, regulatory compliance and local collaboration in China-Indonesia technological cooperation. She also emphasized journalists' responsibility to make complex technological developments accessible to the public and explain their impact on everyday life.
