🌍✨ AWGDC REPRESENTS AT THE CONNECTED CAMEROON PROJECT PITCHING SESSION: TWO PROJECTS, ONE COMMITMENT TO INCLUSION AND IMPACT!

On Thursday, 22 October 2026, the Association for Women and Girls in Deaf Culture (AWGDC) joined representatives of 34 organizations across Cameroon at the Goethe-Institut Kamerun in Yaoundé for the Connected Cameroon Presentation and Project Pitching Session.

The gathering brought together organizations implementing diverse initiatives across different regions and sectors. Each organization had the opportunity to present its project objectives, activities, achievements, implementation challenges, and plans for sustaining its impact beyond the Connected Cameroon programme.

AWGDC was proud to be part of two Connected Cameroon projects:

🕊️ 1. The Classroom as a Vector for Peace

Our President, Emelian Keafoon, pitched our project, “The Classroom as a Vector for Peace: Institutionalizing Non-Violent Conflict Resolution and Social Cohesion through School-Based Youth Clubs in Cameroon.”

The project promotes non-violent conflict resolution, peaceful coexistence, and social cohesion through school-based youth clubs. It seeks to empower young people to become active contributors to peace while promoting inclusive participation and ensuring that Deaf people and persons with disabilities are not left behind.

🤟 2. Access pour Tous

AWGDC was also part of Access pour Tous, an initiative focused on improving access to communication through Cameroonian Sign Language. The project contributes to breaking communication barriers, promoting Deaf inclusion, and making sign language learning more accessible to different communities.

Through our involvement in these two projects, AWGDC continues to demonstrate that disability inclusion belongs in every conversation about peace, education, communication, and community development.

The pitching session also provided an opportunity to learn from the experiences of other organizations, share achievements and challenges, strengthen partnerships, and explore ways to sustain the impact of these initiatives beyond the programme.

We express our sincere gratitude to the Goethe-Institut Kamerun and the German Federal Foreign Office for their support through Connected Cameroon. Thank you for creating a platform that enables organizations to transform ideas into action, build meaningful partnerships, and contribute to positive change across Cameroon.

At AWGDC, we remain committed to empowering Deaf women and girls while advancing a society where communication is accessible, participation is meaningful, and no one is left behind.

ACCESS POUR TOUS: BUILDING BRIDGES, LEAVING NO ONE BEHIND!

Inclusion goes beyond awareness. It means equipping people with the knowledge and resources to communicate, connect, and serve everyone with dignity.

As part of the Access Pour Tous project, the Association for Women and Girls in Deaf Culture (AWGDC) conducted monitoring and follow-up visits to ministries, public institutions, and schools in Bamenda. These visits followed workshops held in Bamenda and Bafoussam on bridging communication gaps for Deaf and visually impaired persons.

During the visits, participants received certificates of participation, USB flash drives prepared by Ap'ArtS and Med.IA Laboratory , and French copies of the Cameroonian Sign Language (CSL) manuals developed by AWGDC and Sascam Save a Soul Cameroon . The English versions of the manuals had previously been shared.

To promote continuous learning, participants were also introduced to the online learning platform featuring basic communication in Cameroonian Sign Language. AWGDC experts facilitated the online training, developing learning modules designed to be simple and easy to navigate, enabling learners to revisit lessons and strengthen their communication skills at their own pace.

Our engagement with service providers is intentional. Ministries, public institutions, security services, health training institutions, and schools regularly interact with members of the Deaf community. Equipping their personnel with basic sign language skills is an important step towards making their services more accessible and inclusive.

One head teacher expressed happiness that his teachers could now introduce basic sign language to pupils, creating opportunities for early learning and inclusion within the school community.

At ELECAM, representatives described the initiative as “very timely” and expressed interest in further learning and collaboration. Nursing students and security personnel also showed interest in developing their sign language skills.

These monitoring visits went beyond distributing learning materials. They reinforced partnerships, encouraged the practical application of knowledge, and highlighted opportunities for continued learning and collaboration.

Access Pour Tous is a joint effort. From developing learning materials and digital resources to facilitating training and following up with institutions, every contribution matters. Together, we are working towards a society where communication is not a barrier to accessing services, information, or opportunities.

PEACEBUILDING THROUGH ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT: AWGDC SUPPORTS ITS MEMBERS

On 15 October 2026, the Association for Women and Girls in Deaf Culture (AWGDC) successfully held a workshop under the Connected Cameroon project, The Classroom as a Vector for Peace: Institutionalizing Non-Violent Conflict Resolution and Social Cohesion through School-Based Youth Clubs in Cameroon.

A key highlight of the workshop was the distribution of livelihood materials to support our members in strengthening their entrepreneurial activities and building more sustainable livelihoods.

The Connected Cameroon Project Manager from Goethe-Institut Kamerun encouraged beneficiaries to remain committed to their efforts and make the most of the support received.

AWGDC President, Emelian Keafoon, reminded participants that although this is a peacebuilding project, poverty eradication is also an essential part of peace. Economic empowerment promotes dignity, stability and opportunities for individuals and their communities.

Moya Sylvie Nwifa, AWGDC Project Coordinator, emphasized the importance of promoting peace as entrepreneurs, managing conflicts constructively, and using the livelihood materials responsibly to strengthen their businesses and improve their livelihoods.

We were also pleased to welcome a representative from the Coordinating Unit of Associations of Persons with Disabilities (CUAPWD).

We equally had the honour of welcoming Miss JMSC – Deaf Cameroon, who graced the event and encouraged our members to remain motivated, embrace the opportunities available to them and continue working towards their goals.

Special appreciation goes to Monju Ita, our interpreter, whose excellent interpretation ensured effective communication and meaningful participation throughout the workshop.

At AWGDC, we believe that peace is more than the absence of conflict. It also means creating opportunities, reducing economic vulnerability and empowering people to live with dignity.

We encourage our members to remain committed, manage their resources wisely and continue building peaceful and sustainable livelihoods.

PINK OCTOBER: EVERY STORY IS UNIQUE, AND EVERY JOURNEY MATTERS!

On Tuesday, the Association for Women and Girls in Deaf Culture (AWGDC) joined a solidarity walk in the fight against breast cancer as part of Pink October, a month dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer prevention, early detection, and support for survivors.

Yesterday, at Alliance Française Bamenda, we participated in health talks and listened to the powerful experiences of breast cancer survivors. These conversations reminded us of the importance of early detection, emotional support, and mental health care throughout the cancer journey.

Our key message was clear: Check Early, Know Early, Act Early!

We also learned that breast cancer affects more than just the body. Mental health support, compassion, and a strong support system are essential for those navigating this challenging journey.

AWGDC is proud to stand in solidarity with everyone affected by breast cancer and to support efforts that promote awareness, inclusion, and access to health information for all, including persons with disabilities.

We appreciate the organisations at the forefront of this initiative: Alliance Française Bamenda, MINSANTÉ, OWED, and BGFIBank, for their commitment to raising awareness and promoting community health.

ACCÈS POUR TOUS: FROM TRAINING TO LASTING IMPACT

At AWGDC, we believe inclusion must go beyond words and awareness to become a practical reality.

We are pleased to see the impact of our collaboration with Save A Soul Cameroon (SASCAM) through the Accès pour Tous initiative. The enthusiasm of students, their demonstration of acquired sign language skills, and their request for further training remind us that accessible communication is not a luxury; it is a necessity.

Their voices reinforce why we must continue advocating for inclusive education, accessible public services, and sustained sign language training.

As we celebrate this progress in Bafoussam, we look forward to extending the same commitment to Bamenda.

Inclusion does not end with a certificate. It begins when communication barriers are removed and everyone can participate.
