At this critical moment, the Ambassade du Japon au Cameroun/在カメルーン日本国大使館 has stepped forward with timely support to the World Food Programme, helping deliver to vulnerable communities in the Far North and Adamawa regions.

This intervention could not come at a more urgent time.

But the reality is stark.
Without additional funding, food assistance pipelines could break during the lean season, when hunger peaks and coping mechanisms are exhausted.

Nearly 600,000 people could lose access to vital assistance in the coming weeks as funding shortfalls force the World Food Programme to scale back operations at a time when hunger is on the rise and remains high, particularly in conflict-affected regions.

Across the country, nearly three million people are projected to face crisis or emergency levels of food insecurity during the June to August 2026 lean season, up from 2.6 million during the same period in 2025. Nearly one in three children under five is stunted, reflecting persistently high levels of chronic malnutrition.

With limited funding, Programme Alimentaire Mondial has been compelled to reduce its reach and scale of assistance. In 2026, the organization is targeting 591,000 people, representing a 38 percent reduction from the originally planned caseload of 950,000. Food rations have also been reduced by half in an effort to stretch available resources.

These constraints are already affecting vulnerable refugees, internally displaced people and host communities, many of whom rely on support to meet their basic and needs.

Without additional funding, the situation risks reversing gains made in , , and , with potential wider implications such as worsening malnutrition, migration, and early marriages for the girl children.

WFP requires US$40 million to sustain food and nutrition assistance in Cameroon through September.

Anticiper les crises alimentaires commence par une chose essentielle : des données fiables, au bon moment.

Au Cameroun, le Gouvernement, à travers l'Observatoire National sur les Changements Climatiques au Cameroun( ) et le PProgramme Alimentaire Mondial renforcent leur collaboration pour transformer les données climatiques en décisions concrètes au service des populations.

Dans le cadre du protocole d’accord signé en février 2025, et avec l’appui d’un projet de prévision de la sécurité alimentaire financé par Google Chrome le PAM a remis, le 2 avril 2026, six ordinateurs portables – dont trois de haute performance – à l’ONACC.

Un appui technique qui va :
✅accélérer le traitement des données climatiques

✅affiner les modèles de prévision

✅améliorer l’accès à des informations fiables pour les décideurs et les communautés

Derrière ces équipements, un objectif clair :
anticiper les chocs, protéger les moyens de subsistance et renforcer durablement la résilience des populations.

Parce que mieux prévoir, c’est déjà mieux protéger.

In 2025, the World Food Programme reached over 903,000 people with , , and support, helping communities withstand crises and rebuild their lives.

Today, that progress is at risk.

Since the beginning of 2026, the World Food Programme, with the support of its generous donors and in close collaboration with the Government of 🇨🇲, has reached thousands of vulnerable people across the country.

👉🏾 178,000 people assisted, out of the planned 591,000.
👉🏾 65 percent of the assisted are women
👉🏾 790 metric tonnes of food distributed
👉🏾 Over 400 million CFA francs, equivalent to 705,000 US dollars, provided through cash-based transfers.

Behind these figures are real lives and real stories. Families are able to meet their food and needs. Children continue their education. Communities are gradually rebuilding their .

These achievements are made possible through the continued commitment of partners and donors who stand with in and .

However, this progress is now at risk.

⚠️ WFP urgently requires 40.4 million US dollars to sustain food and nutrition assistance over the next six months. Without immediate funding, nearly 600,000 vulnerable women, men and children could lose access to this vital support. Already, fewer than planned number of people are receiving assistance.

Every contribution matters. Every moment counts. Every action can help protect lives.

Investing today means protecting lives tomorrow.

Today, the Government of Cameroon, together with the United Nations and partners, launched the Joint Programme to strengthen local , support smallholder farmers, and expand access to reliable and inclusive markets.

With 2.9 million people facing acute food insecurity, this initiative focuses on practical, scalable solutions that improve production, strengthen , and unlock access to finance especially for women and young people.

It also contributes to advancing import substitution, supporting national efforts to promote locally produced food and reduce dependence on imports.

By linking farmers to structured demand through and humanitarian programmes, CONVERGEFOOD is helping build predictable markets, stronger livelihoods, and more resilient communities, while improving access to affordable and nutritious food.

This is a strong example of how coordinated action can deliver sustainable solutions for and in 🇨🇲.

A healthy meal helps children learn — and dream bigger.

At Beka Matali School in Ngaoundéré, former international footballer Nicolas Nkoulou met pupils benefiting from school meals supported by the World Food Programme.

Prepared by parents and community cooks, these meals provide children with the nutrition they need to stay healthy, concentrate in class and attend school regularly.

Building resilient communities starts with stronger .

During an advocacy field visit to Ngaoundéré, former international footballer Nicolas Nkoulou joined the World Food Programme to meet communities benefiting from initiatives that strengthen and local food production.

In Tchabal Moungel, Nicolas visited an integrated resilience site where WFP-supported smallholder farmer Co-operative is producing and processing fish, and growing vegetables to help communities improve incomes, increase food availability and become resilient to climate and economic shocks.

These initiatives are part of WFP’s efforts to strengthen local food systems, enabling communities to produce and process food locally while supporting sustainable livelihoods.

However, needs remain high. WFP Cameroon faces a USD 40 million funding shortfall between April and September 2026, threatening the continuity of programmes that support vulnerable communities across the country.

Behind every bag of or , there is a family holding on.

Thanks to donors' support, Joseph Dounia, a 65-year-old Cameroonian and father of 17 children, is among the internally displaced people (IDPs) in the Mora district of the Far North region receiving from World Food Programme.

But today, the warning is clear: without additional funding, could come to a complete halt, leaving over half a million refugees and IDPs food insecure, with children and pregnant and breastfeeding women at heightened risk of .

WFP urgently requires an additional US$38 million to maintain vital assistance for the most vulnerable over the next six months.

For the entirety of 2026, WFP requires US$95.2 million to deliver assistance to 590,000 people, representing 65 percent of the initially targeted beneficiaries.
