Seit 30 Jahren zeichnet der DAAD mit dem Jacob- und Wilhelm-Grimm-Preis internationale Wissenschaftler:innen aus, die die Germanistik weltweit prägen – in Forschung, Lehre und gesellschaftlichem Dialog.

Auch die Auswahl 2025 zeigt, wie relevant das Fach heute ist:
Prof. Dr. Albert Gouaffo wird für seine Arbeiten zur deutschen Kolonialgeschichte und sein Engagement für eine vernetzte, interkulturelle Germanistik geehrt.
Dr. Elaine Cristina Roschel Nunes erhält den Förderpreis für ihren innovativen Ansatz in der Ausbildung von Deutschlehrkräften in Brasilien.

Call for PhD Scholarships to examine Just Transitions in Energy, Climate and Sustainability within TRAJECTS

📣 OPEN CALL: PhD Fellowship

The Transnational Centre for Just Transitions in Energy, Climate and Sustainability (TRAJECTS) invites applications for nine fully funded doctoral fellowships for the period August 2026 – July 2030, at partner universities in Germany, South Africa and Colombia.

TRAJECTS supports doctoral research that promotes socially just transitions in energy, climate, and sustainability, strengthening South-South-North academic exchange and collaboration. Each selected person will be enrolled in a host institution and will have co-supervision within the TRAJECTS network.

TRAJECTS publishes a list of suggested doctoral topics within the call to which you can apply. However, candidates can also propose combinations of several topics or develop their own proposals that align with the general objectives of TRAJECTS, which are:

🟣 Mitigating climate change through the phase-out of fossil fuels (e.g. climate policies or employment effects from the energy transition).
🟣 Sustainable integration of renewable energy systems (e.g., energy access, circular economy of renewables, or hydrogen production).
🟣 Socio-ecological transitions in critical areas, with an emphasis on regions highly dependent on fossil fuels (e.g., socio-ecological considerations of renewable energy, post-carbon urban transitions, agroecological transitions, socio-environmental conflicts associated with land and energy extractive activities, and hydroclimatological perspectives).

Applicants must clearly specify the geographical focus of their proposal. This may include Colombia and/or South Africa, or a broader analysis covering neighboring regions or a global reach.

With GROW – Global Research Opportunities for the South, the DAAD supports researchers from Latin America, Asia and Sub - Saharan Africa in building strong, sustainable research partnerships with Germany.

The programme funds short - term research stays in Germany, as well as preparatory and cooperation visits, all with a clear focus on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and concrete development impact.

A core principle of GROW is what comes after the stay: Fellows return to their home institutions and bring back new knowledge, methods and networks, strengthening research, teaching and knowledge transfer where it matters most.

🎓 Open to early-career and experienced researchers, academics and university lecturers at higher education and research institutions. Women and individuals from disadvantaged regions or groups are especially encouraged to apply.

For German universities, GROW offers an excellent opportunity to initiate or strengthen SDG-oriented international research cooperation.

From 3 to 5 March 2026, the second contact phase of the 𝐃𝐈𝐄𝐒 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐧, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 - 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 was successfully completed.✅

Effective leadership is the driving force behind the transformation of our universities to meet current societal challenges. This programme, supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Rectors' Conference (HRK), aims specifically to strengthen the capacities of university executives for more effective and sustainable management.

📚𝐎𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐈𝐈 (𝟑–𝟓 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔):

During these three intensive days at the University of Buea, participants explored key topics in depth:

📌𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 in higher education.
📌𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐥-𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤: special session on mental health management in the workplace.
📌𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬: final presentations of individual projects, demonstrating the practical application of the skills acquired for the development of their respective institutions.
