In high-income regions, less than 1 child per 100,000 under the age of 5 dies from diarrhea? Meanwhile, in Sub-Saharan Africa, that number surges to over 150 deaths per 100,000.

The most heartbreaking part? This divide isn't inevitable—it's entirely preventable. Clean water, basic sanitation, and proper hygiene (WASH) can save thousands of young lives every single day.

We have the tools, the knowledge, and the resources to fix this. It’s time to bridge the gap and ensure every child, no matter where they are born, has a chance to grow up healthy.

The Silent Crisis: Why Diarrhea is a Development Issue, Not Just a Health One.

While global child mortality from diarrheal diseases has fallen significantly, regional disparities tell a sobering story. In Sub-Saharan Africa, the under-five mortality rate for diarrhea is still 150x higher than in high-income countries.

This isn't just a clinical failure; it's a structural bottleneck. Repeated childhood illnesses stunt cognitive development and trap families in cycles of poverty. To achieve SDG 3, we must treat water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) as core economic infrastructure.

Think about that for a second.

More than 1 billion people worldwide are facing "catastrophic" health spending. This means a staggering 10% or more of their entire household budget is eaten up by healthcare costs alone. When a single illness can plunge an entire family into financial ruin, the system is broken. True health cannot exist without financial protection.

A staggering 1.6 BILLION people are either living in poverty or being pushed deeper into it — not because of unemployment, not because of lack of effort, but because of out-of-pocket healthcare expenses.
