World Cleanup Day 2025 – Belle Réalité Takes Action in Yaoundé
Today, September 20th, the world came together to mark World Cleanup Day, a global environmental initiative that unites millions of people across continents in a common mission: to rid our planet of waste and raise awareness about sustainable living. In Yaoundé, Belle Réalité was honored to join several civil society actors in this important activity, with the valuable initiative of Carrefour Cameroun (Playce), who provided us with the equipment and materials needed for the collection of reusable plastic bottles. Our cleanup journey stretched from CETIC Ngoakelle to Playce CARREFOUR Yaoundé, symbolizing not only the removal of waste from our streets but also the path toward a cleaner and more responsible future.
This action falls within one of the six strategic axes of Belle Réalité, which specifically addresses Environment and Climate Change. It reflects our commitment to integrate sustainability into our community interventions, ensuring that environmental stewardship remains at the core of our mission. By engaging directly in cleanup activities, we reaffirm that the fight against climate change and pollution requires both local participation and global solidarity.
Globally, World Cleanup Day demonstrates the power of collective action. According to recent figures, more than 114 million people in over 200 countries take part in cleanup efforts, removing thousands of tons of waste each year. Yet the challenge remains immense: only about 9% of plastic produced worldwide has ever been recycled, and plastic production is projected to triple by 2060 if urgent measures are not taken. These alarming statistics underscore why mobilizations like today are critical—not only to reduce waste but to shift mindsets, inspire behavioral change, and press for systemic reforms in waste management and environmental policy.
As BELLE Réalité , we believe that every act of cleanup is a voice raised for the planet. Collecting a single bottle may seem modest, but when multiplied by millions of hands across the world, it becomes a powerful symbol of change. Beyond picking up waste, World Cleanup Day challenges us to rethink consumption, promote recycling, and advocate for policies that protect future generations.
Our participation today is therefore not an isolated action but part of a broader movement to build a sustainable Cameroon within a healthier planet. We remain committed to using our platform to educate, mobilize, and advocate, ensuring that environmental protection remains a priority for our communities and institutions alike.
Together, let us continue to transform small actions into lasting impact. 🌍✨
