Our Eco-guards and one of CBBM’s volunteers recently headed into the field for monitoring in Somié, documenting the landscape and keeping a close eye on the natural environment.
But field monitoring is not only about data. It is also about experiencing, documenting, and appreciating the landscapes we are working to protect. 🌳
These beautiful photographs from the field offer a glimpse of Somié’s natural beauty and the landscapes that support both people and wildlife.
Every monitoring trip brings us one step closer to understanding this environment and strengthening conservation efforts.

Not all wildlife in Cameroon gets the same legal protection. 🦍

Cameroon’s wildlife law splits species into three classes based on how threatened they are. Class A species like the Cross River Gorilla and Nigeria-Cameroon Chimpanzee are fully protected and face the highest extinction risk. Class B species need careful management whereas, class C species are more common, but still regulated.

Here’s the thing: common doesn’t mean unimportant. Every species (rare or not) plays a role in keeping forests and ecosystems healthy.

Protecting Cameroon’s wildlife means protecting all three classes, not just the ones on the endangered list. 🌍
