Through this collaboration, YCD will provide its expertise to training and capacity-building activities, with a particular focus on agricultural technology and other areas where digital skills can contribute to innovation for youth empowerment and community development.

We believe that meaningful opportunities for youths and communities are created when organisations bring their different strengths together.

“WHEN THE RAIN BECOMES DISASTER”. WHAT IS HAPPENING IN OUR CITIES?

Flooding in Cameroon is affecting communities across our cities.
From Douala to Buea, Bamenda, Yaoundé and other affected areas, heavy rains can quickly turn roads, homes and neighbourhoods into flood zones.

In Douala, recent heavy rains left parts of the city underwater, disrupting movement and affecting homes, businesses and schools.

But flooding isn't only about how much rain falls.

- Poor drainage, blocked waterways, waste, construction in vulnerable areas, urban growth and other environmental and infrastructure challenges can make the consequences worse.

- And when flooding happens, the impact goes beyond water on the streets.
People can lose property.
Children can struggle to get to school.
Businesses can lose goods and income.
Roads can become dangerous.
And, in the worst cases, lives can be lost.

So when we talk about flooding, we're also talking about:

Our environment.
Our cities.
Our infrastructure.
Our communities.
And how prepared we are.

Flooding is a problem that requires more than one solution.

Better planning.
Better drainage and waste management.
Environmental protection.
Prepared communities.
And collective action.

3 Things We Learned From Pitching the Farmer Guide 🌱📱

Taking an idea from a concept to a solution means being willing to learn, question what you have built, and listen to the people you are building for.

Through our experience pitching the YCD Farmer Guide, we learned a few things that continue to shape the project:

1. A good idea isn't enough.
You need to clearly understand the problem you're trying to solve and communicate why your solution matters. A strong idea becomes stronger when the problem, the people and the purpose are clear.

2. The people you're building for have to remain at the centre.
An agricultural solution cannot be designed only around what sounds good on paper. It has to consider the realities farmers face and how technology can actually fit into their everyday lives.

3. Feedback makes an idea stronger.
Every question, challenge and piece of feedback during the pitching process gave us an opportunity to look at the Farmer Guide differently, identify what needed to be improved, and think more carefully about the solution we are developing.

For us, pitching was not just about presenting an idea. It was part of the process of learning how to build a solution around a real problem — and learning that meaningful solutions are stronger when they are shaped by the people and communities they are meant to serve.

As the Farmer Guide moves from an idea into testing, we look forward to continuing that process of learning, listening and building together.

Because creating solutions for communities should also mean creating them with communities. 🌱

1. Curiosity
Don't be afraid to ask questions, explore new subjects and learn things outside your usual interests.

2. A willingness to try
You won't know what you're capable of until you try something.

3. One skill you're determined to build
Communication, leadership, digital skills, creativity, problem-solving — choose one and work on it.

4. People who challenge and encourage you
Find friends, teachers, mentors or communities that help you grow.

5. The courage to contribute
Look around you. What can you improve, however small? Your school and community are also places where you can make a difference.
