Entrepreneurship, Healing & Social Impact: Honoring Tweke John Tumenta and Babungo Integrated Mental Health Care (BIMEHC)

The Cameroon Heroes Impact Awards is proud to recognize and celebrate outstanding leaders whose vision and innovation are transforming lives and strengthening communities across Cameroon. Among this year’s distinguished honorees is Tweke John Tumenta, Founder and Executive Director of BIMEHC, recipient of the Entrepreneurship and Business Impact Award, in recognition of his exceptional contribution to health innovation, social enterprise, and community development.

Through his leadership at BIMEHC (Babungo Integrated Mental Health Care), Tweke John Tumenta has demonstrated how entrepreneurship can go beyond business to become a powerful tool for social transformation, healthcare delivery, and sustainable development. His vision has redefined mental health care in Cameroon by building an integrated model that combines traditional healing practices with modern psychiatric medicine, while also addressing the social and economic needs of vulnerable populations.

Located in Babungo, BIMEHC stands as a pioneering institution offering a holistic range of services that extend far beyond clinical treatment. The center provides inpatient and outpatient mental health care, with a unique structure of 25 two-bed rooms where patients are accompanied by an “obligatory carer,” strengthening emotional stability and social support during recovery. It also delivers primary healthcare services to the wider community, ensuring inclusive access to essential medical care.

Under Tweke John Tumenta’s leadership, BIMEHC has expanded its impact through specialized programs, including support for persons living with HIV/AIDS, while maintaining high standards of care through clinical supervision by psychiatrist Dr. Jean Pierre Olen Kamga from Centre Jamot in Yaoundé, who regularly consults with patients and trains staff. This reflects a strong commitment to professional excellence and quality assurance in mental health service delivery.

Beyond healthcare, BIMEHC is a center of community empowerment and social reintegration. Through sensitization workshops, the institution actively fights stigma around mental health while promoting awareness on human rights, nutrition, hygiene, and wellbeing. This community-based approach has played a vital role in changing perceptions and encouraging early treatment and inclusion.

A key pillar of its impact is the Viti-Jos vocational training program, which equips stabilized patients and underprivileged youth with practical skills in tailoring, fashion design, embroidery, computing, secretarial work, agriculture, and livestock management. These programs provide pathways to economic independence, dignity, and long-term reintegration into society.

In partnership with the Babungo Foundation, BIMEHC also supports educational initiatives for underprivileged children in Babungo and Yaoundé, reinforcing its commitment to breaking cycles of poverty through education and opportunity.

What makes BIMEHC truly exceptional is its sustainability-driven social enterprise model. Operating on a 5-hectare site, the center functions as a demonstration hub for sustainable development, integrating income-generating activities such as piggery, poultry farming, and agriculture. These initiatives not only support operational sustainability but also serve as occupational therapy for patients. The institution further maintains a herbal pharmacy, medicinal plant gardens, and ecotourism guest facilities, reinforcing its integration of traditional knowledge, innovation, and financial sustainability.

The Cameroon Heroes Impact Awards recognizes Tweke John Tumenta for building more than an institution—he has built a transformational ecosystem where entrepreneurship meets healing, dignity, and community empowerment. His work through BIMEHC demonstrates that business leadership can directly address social challenges while creating sustainable impact for generations.

As we celebrate this remarkable achievement, we encourage him to continue expanding this vision, strengthening BIMEHC’s reach, and inspiring more social entrepreneurs to adopt models that combine innovation, compassion, and sustainability. His leadership is a powerful example of how entrepreneurship can shape healthier, stronger, and more inclusive communities.

Congratulations, Tweke John Tumenta. Your vision is healing lives, empowering communities, and building a stronger Cameroon.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: CAMEROON HEROES IMPACT AWARDS 2027

The Cameroon Heroes Impact Awards secretariat is pleased to announce new strategic improvements for the 2027 edition of the Awards.

Following observations from the 2026 edition, where many nominees and institutions attended individually without adequate representation of their teams, the Cameroon Heroes Impact Awards is introducing a new Nominee Attendance & Delegation Policy aimed at strengthening participation, visibility, and the overall experience of the ceremony.

🔷 WHY THIS CHANGE?
This policy is designed to transform the Cameroon Heroes Impact Awards from a “certificate pickup event" into a national impact celebration with strong institutional presence, energy, and visibility.

The Cameroon Heroes Impact Awards is not just a recognition platform—it is a national celebration of collective impact.

To reflect the reality that impact is created by teams, institutions, and communities, the 2027 edition will require all nominees to attend with a minimum delegation of guests or representatives.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS OF THE NEW POLICY
👤 Individual Nominees Must attend with a minimum of 3 guests
🏛️ Institutional Nominees Must attend as a delegation (not single representatives)
Minimum delegation: 5 – 15 persons depending on institution size

The OBJECTIVE of this policy is to ensure every award reflects the team, institution, and community behind the achievement

⚖️ ATTENDANCE COMPLIANCE & ELIGIBILITY POLICY
To further strengthen the credibility, discipline, and integrity of the Cameroon Heroes Impact Awards, GAICAM International hereby introduces a strict attendance compliance policy for all nominees. Henceforth, any individual or institution that is officially nominated; confirms participation; and is duly notified of selection but fails to attend the award ceremony or send a properly authorized representative or delegation without a valid justification shall automatically become ineligible for nomination or consideration for the Cameroon Heroes Impact Awards for a period of five (5) consecutive years. This measure is introduced to discourage the practice of using nomination status solely for promotional or branding purposes without genuine participation in the recognition process.

Exceptions may only be granted in cases of verified force majeure such as medical emergencies, official state duties, travel restrictions, or other documented exceptional circumstances submitted within the approved timeline. This policy reinforces the principle that nomination is not an award in itself and that true recognition under the Cameroon Heroes Impact Awards framework is based on active participation, institutional commitment, and respect for the integrity of the process.

EXPECTED IMPACT
✔ Stronger event atmosphere
✔ Increased institutional visibility
✔ Better media coverage and storytelling
✔ Enhanced networking opportunities
✔ Greater recognition of collective effort
