Grand North in Summary

31/03/2026

The most incredible rolling hills in the Northwest Region are located on the north side of Mbengwi. The place is a kind of plateau 15 kilometers West of Bafut. From this place you feel Bamenda town is under your feet. Only fulani people are living there isolated from any kind modern amenities.

Northwest, Cameroon.

Understanding Tides.

A lunar day is how long it takes for one point on the Earth to make one complete rotation and end up at the same point in relation to the moon. The reason that a lunar day is longer than a normal 24-hour day is because the moon rotates around the Earth in the same direction that the Earth is spinning. It takes the Earth an extra 50 minutes to “catch up” to the moon.

Tides are very long waves that move across the oceans. They are caused by the gravitational forces exerted on the earth by the moon, and to a lesser extent, the sun.

Indeed the mass of water present on the surface of the earth is attracted by the moon towards it, when they are relatively close. The earth also rotates, the raised waters have a consequent displacement to this rotation which is called Coriolis force (a kind of sliding due to their viscosity). The winds add their influence.

When the highest point in the wave, or the crest, reaches a coast, the coast experiences a high tide. When the lowest point, or the trough, reaches a coast, the coast experiences a low tide.

I did the picture before AI, and it's the only one on which you can have a complete overview of the profile the Mount Fako.

I was once kidding on how difficult taking this picture can be. It's due to a long list of factors like the rapid changes you can have in weather conditions (Mount Fako is almost always hidden into deep clouds), how high you should be between ground level and the summit (at least 6000 feet. there's no cheap drone reaching this altitude) and the little time you have to achieve this during the very start of the raining season (during the dry season there so much dust in the air you can't have it as clean as this one).

Have a look on the left side. You can see the lines are not regular. The bumps you see are dozen of volcanic cones. Spreading lava so much it prevents grass to grow for decades. This is the reason why the colors appear different from the rest of the mountain. This left wing witnesses more volcanic activity than the other. So climbing there is prohibited and sometimes you will see smoke rising from some of the burning holes.

This picture deserves to be shown more often. Give a like and share.

Ps : Make a clic on the picture to make sure you see it entirely.

From Tiko (because you cannot have a complete sight of the mountain from), Southwest, Cameroon.

INHERITANCE IN NSO LAND

In Nso tradition, women do not inherit the property of their father.

In case a man dies having only female children, his inheritance will automatically be under the protection of the Faay or family head awaiting for a male grandchild.

If there's no male grandchild, the inheritance becomes that of the family and under the custody of the family head.

This not withstanding, a man can share his property to his children while still alive but there are certain things that are only reserved for his successor especially those things that he also received as inheritance. This includes, the family house, Kolanuts Tree, palm bush, farm land, guns and other arms, etc.

Some will ask to know about the wife of the deceased. In Nso, the wife belongs to the family. When you die, your wife becomes the responsibility of the family especially the family head who can assign your junior brother to inherit her. A senior brother can not inherit his junior brother's Wife.

I know many of you will not be comfortable with this but you just need to know the spirit of these laws.
