Today Hope For A Better Tomorrow - HOBET joins the globe in advancing the advocacy against Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM) by contributing, investing in girls to ensure their well-being, dignity, and prospects are protected.

The elimination of FGM requires communities to be informed about its risks, girls to be empowered to assert their rights, and collective action to challenge detrimental norms. At HOBET, we believe that through unity, we can change traditions, protect girls' rights, and create safe environments where every girl can thrive without fear.

The Building a Foundation for Responsive Governance: Strengthening Policy Responsiveness in the Regional Assemblies of the North West and SouthWest Regions of Cameroon project by the Women’s Democracy Network – Cameroon (WDNC) in Collaboration with;
• Regional Assemblies of the North West and South West Regions
• National Advanced School for Strategic Leadership and Organisational Development
(NASSLOD)
• InterFaith Vision Foundation Cameroon (IVFCam)

Is a governance support initiative aimed at strengthening the effectiveness, responsiveness, and inclusiveness of the newly elected Regional Assemblies.

It has as overall Objective to strengthen responsive, inclusive, and community-driven policymaking within the Regional Assemblies of the North West and South West Regions through targeted capacity building and structured engagement with civil society organisations.

The initiative seeks institutional collaboration and alignment with government priorities on
decentralization, citizen participation, and post-crisis recovery.

Following the November 2025 elections, the Regional Assemblies of the North-West and South-West
Regions have entered a critical phase of mandate implementation. As key institutions under Cameroon’s decentralization framework, Regional Assemblies are expected to:
• Translate community priorities into coherent regional development policies;
• Engage citizens and civil society in decision-making processes; and
• Contribute to social cohesion, recovery, and inclusive development in post-crisis contexts.

Experience from previous mandates indicates that newly elected officials often require practical support to operationalize these responsibilities, particularly in developing policy action plans that are responsive to community needs and inclusive of women and other underrepresented groups. At the same time, civil society organizations, especially women-led groups, lack structured mechanisms to engage Regional Assemblies constructively, limiting citizen input and accountability.

The initiative responds to two interrelated challenges affecting Regional Assembly effectiveness:
1. Capacity Constraints: Limited practical tools and experience among newly elected officials to
formulate responsive, results-oriented policy proposals.
2. Limited Structured Engagement: Absence of formal, constructive channels for civil society
participation in Regional Assembly policymaking processes.

Addressing these challenges early in the mandate is essential to strengthen institutional performance and public trust.

On Thursday 29th January 2026, our office formally hosted a delegation from the Goofirm Foundation for a strategic partnership meeting, consolidating our efforts to establish robust systems and promote a sustainable environment that aligns with our shared vision and objectives in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), prevents and responds to Gender-Based Violence (GBV), provides safe spaces for survivors, and advocate for access to accurate information Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) and services.

HOBET reaffirms its commitment to collaborative solutions, acknowledging the pressing need to address escalating GBV cases, enhance WASH services, and ensure access to accurate SRHR information and services.

We look forward to strengthening our partnership, capitalizing on this opportune moment to effectively address the rising GBV cases in our communities.

World Braille Day: Inclusion, Dignity, and a Better Tomorrow for All

Today, 4th January, we join the global community to commemorate World Braille Day, a day that reminds us that inclusion begins with access. Access to information. Access to education. Access to opportunities. And most importantly, access to dignity.

At Hope for a Better Tomorrow Cameroon (HOBET), inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. Our work across sexual and reproductive health (SRH), comprehensive sexuality education (CSE), gender-based violence (GBV) prevention, mental health support, and peacebuilding is rooted in one belief: no one should be left behind.

World Braille Day challenges us to look beyond physical barriers and ask deeper questions. Who has access to health information in our communities? Who is excluded from education because materials are not accessible? Who is overlooked when we design programs meant to protect and empower?

Persons with visual impairment and other disabilities are often excluded from SRH and CSE conversations, not because they do not need them, but because systems were not designed with them in mind. This exclusion increases vulnerability, misinformation, stigma, and silence. Inclusion, on the other hand, promotes safety, confidence, wellbeing, and peace.

At HOBET, we work to ensure that education is empowering, protective, and inclusive. Whether it is supporting survivors of gender-based violence, providing psychosocial support, educating young people, or promoting peaceful and respectful communities, our approach recognizes diversity and values every voice.

Peace is not only the absence of conflict. Peace is when people feel seen, heard, and respected. It is when access to information is equitable. It is when women, girls, and vulnerable groups are supported to live healthy, informed, and dignified lives.

As we mark World Braille Day, let us remember that true development and peace cannot exist without inclusion. A better tomorrow is one where SRH education is accessible, CSE reaches everyone, GBV is actively prevented, and communities grow stronger through understanding and compassion.

Today, take a moment to reflect on inclusion in your own space. Support initiatives that promote accessible education, share this message, and stand with organizations working to build safer, healthier, and more peaceful communities. Together, we can create a future where everyone belongs.
