Day 1 – Building the Backbone of GBV Data Systems in Humanitarian Response

Today marks the beginning of an intensive 5-day Training of Data Experts on GBVIMS, organized by TeenAlive - Cameroon with technical support from UNFPA Cameroon , under the Woman Eh! Wuna Place Dey Project at Lodge and Resort, Limbe.

GAERE step into this space with one clear conviction: quality data is not just numbers, it is protection, accountability, and dignity for survivors.

Day One laid a strong foundation through critical thematic areas:

Security information protocols in GBV data management

Pre-test on GBVIMS basic tools

Introduction to GBVIMS and its role in coordinated response systems

PSEA (Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) as a non-negotiable safeguard principle

Intake forms and structured case documentation

Coding systems for ethical, secure, and standardized data handling

The session reinforced a powerful truth: without standardized and ethical data systems, response efforts risk fragmentation, duplication, and weakened survivor protection.

At GAERE, we remain committed to strengthening our internal M&E systems, improving case management quality, and ensuring that every data point we collect translates into better services, stronger referrals, and safer outcomes for survivors of GBV.

This is more than training, it is capacity building for justice, protection, and informed humanitarian action.
We look forward to the next days of deeper technical learning and practical application.

No more silence. No more excuses. It’s time to end sexual violence.

GAERE stood alongside civil society organizations in , in collaboration with UNFPA Cameroon and Regional Delegation of Women's Empowerment and the Family Southwest, for a powerful Peace Walk against Sexual Assault as part of the commemoration of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM).

Under the theme, “25 Years Stronger: Looking Back, Moving Forward,” we reflected on the progress made in combating sexual violence while renewing our commitment to building safer, more protective communities for women, girls, and all vulnerable persons.

This was more than a walk.
It was a collective call for action.
We walked in solidarity with survivors.
We raised our voices against silence and stigma.

We called for accountability and justice.
Sexual violence is a violation of human dignity and a threat to peace, protection, and community wellbeing. Ending it requires all of us families, leaders, institutions, and communities to take action.

Prevention begins with awareness.
Protection demands collective responsibility.
Survivors deserve safety, dignity, justice, and support.

At GAERE, we remain committed to strengthening prevention, promoting survivor-centered response, and advocating for a society free from Gender-Based Violence.

Together, we can break the silence.
Together, we can challenge harmful norms.
Together, we can end GBV.

Yesterday marked a powerful moment of learning, collaboration, and purpose.
Global Action for Education and Rehabilitation (GAERE) successfully hosted an impactful Masterclass on Grant Writing and Fundraising Strategies, bringing together passionate and forward-thinking CSOs in Buea. The room was filled with energy, ambition, and a shared commitment to building stronger, more sustainable organizations that can truly deliver change where it matters most.

Beyond fundraising, we intentionally used this platform to amplify a critical global issue. In commemoration of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), we were honored to partner with UNFPA, who delivered a compelling and eye-opening session on sexual assault—challenging mindsets, deepening understanding, and reinforcing the urgent need for collective action to protect and empower vulnerable communities.

This masterclass was not just about writing proposals, it was about shifting mindsets, strengthening capacity, and igniting a new level of strategic thinking among CSOs. Because sustainable impact begins when organizations think like funders, act with clarity, and lead with purpose.

We extend our sincere gratitude to UNFPA for their unwavering support and commitment to advocacy and protection, and to all participating CSOs for your resilience, dedication, and relentless drive to create change.
