As part of activities commemorating World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026, the GAERE team visited Ediki, one of the conflict-affected communities in the South West Region of Cameroon, to conduct a community needs assessment on challenges affecting women and girls.
During the visit, the team held productive discussions with the Chief of Ediki and a representative of the Council to better understand the realities faced by women, girls, and the community at large regarding menstrual hygiene management. Key concerns raised included limited access to materials, inadequate facilities, surrounding menstruation, and the impact of the ongoing crisis on the wellbeing and dignity of adolescent girls and women.
The engagement provided an opportunity to listen to the community’s needs and explore possible local and sustainable solutions that can promote menstrual health awareness, , and protection for girls and women in settings.
At GAEREwe believe that every girl deserves to manage her period safely, confidently, and with dignity. We remain committed to working with community leaders, local authorities, and to amplify endogenous solutions towards building a period-friendly world.
