Open Field is a Pittsburgh-based 501.c.3 nonprofit organization and registered association in Meme Division (Southwest Region, Cameroon, Africa) with the mission to improve the lives and futures of youth through sport. Open Field was founded by American, Justin Forzano, and Cameroonian, Peter Ngwane. The two met in 2006 during Forzano’s first trip to Cameroon, Africa as an engineering student working on rural development projects.

Some heroes don’t wear capes—they carry courage.

Coach Basil of Legend Academy is living proof that true passion can never be broken. After surviving a serious accident that affected both of his legs, many thought his coaching journey had come to an end. Instead, he returned stronger.
Today, he can still be seen on the touchline, standing proudly with the support of his two crutches, passionately directing his players, inspiring young talents, and refusing to let his physical condition define his purpose.

His determination, resilience, and love for football have earned him the respect of many, making him one of the finest and most admired coaches in the city of Kumba.

Future Dream suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat against Young Strikers, with the decisive goal coming in the final extra minutes of the match, bringing an exciting contest to a dramatic close.

As we are gradually rounding up the first phase of the “Kick for Climate Action and Entrepreneurship” Football Tournament for Boys and Girls, we are proud of the passion, teamwork, and commitment demonstrated by all participating teams.

The journey continues as we prepare to enter the second phase of the project, which will focus on both practical and theoretical training for all participants, including persons with disabilities, on how to transform plastic waste into eco-friendly bricks.

Together, we are using football as a tool for climate action, entrepreneurship, inclusion, and sustainable community development.

Impact Story: Walker’s Leadership Journey

Meet Walker, the captain of Legend FA, whose life has been transformed through our Kick for Climate Action and Entrepreneurship Project.
Walker admits that before joining the project, he was often naïve and arrogant, believing that leadership was simply about being in charge. Through our leadership training, mentorship, teamwork, and climate action activities, he discovered that true leadership is rooted in humility, respect, confidence, and service to others.
Today, Walker is a different person. He leads by example, treats every teammate with respect, and has become a source of inspiration both on and off the field. His confidence has grown, but so has his humility, earning him the admiration of his teammates and peers.

Despite the challenging weather this rainy season, the enthusiasm and determination of our young participants remain stronger than ever. The Kick for Climate Action and Entrepreneurship project for boys and girls in the Kumba Municipality continues with unwavering spirit.

Our young athletes are proving that neither rain nor difficult conditions can stop their commitment to learning, playing, and creating positive change in their communities.

The journey doesn’t end with the football tournaments. Once both the boys’ and girls’ competitions are completed, we will move into the exciting second phase of the project—training young people on how to transform plastic waste into eco-bricks. This practical initiative will equip them with valuable green skills, promote environmental sustainability, and encourage entrepreneurship while helping to keep our communities clean.

Impact Story: K**a Mary – Courageous Captain of Barombi Girls

K**a Mary’s journey to leadership is nothing short of inspiring. Despite never having stepped onto a football field before, her teammates saw in her the courage, determination, and heart needed to guide them. They chose her as captain, and with their trust, she embraced the challenge of leading both her team and her community.

In their match against Baptis Ladies, Kema’s leadership shone brightly. She rallied her teammates, instilled confidence, and together they secured a vital 3 points. For the Barombi Girls, it wasn’t just a victory on the pitch—it was a moment of pride and visibility for their community.

At the end of the game, Kema Mary shared powerful words:
"I promise not just to play but to sensitize my community about the theme of the tournament—Menstrual Health Management and Wellbeing—and to be a better role model in my community."

Girls Football Tournament 2026 – A Great Start.

On 5th July 2026, the Girls Football Tournament officially kicked off at GPS Field, Kumba Town, with an exciting opening match between Legend FA and Barombi Ladies.

This year’s tournament was truly extraordinary, providing young and talented girls with the opportunity to showcase their football skills, passion, and determination. Every player demonstrated remarkable confidence, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the match.

Although the game ended in a 0–0 draw, the scoreline did not reflect the excitement on the pitch. Both teams delivered outstanding performances, entertained the spectators, and proved that girls’ football continues to grow stronger in our communities.

Beyond football, this year’s tournament is centered on the theme “Menstrual Health and Hygiene Sanitation.” Through this initiative, we aim to educate, empower, and reshape the mindset of our female participants, encouraging them to become confident ambassadors of menstrual health, hygiene, and dignity within their respective communities.

A big congratulations to both Legend FA and Barombi Ladies for an inspiring opening match. We look forward to many more exciting games as we continue to empower girls through sport.

Exciting News for Kumba!
All necessary arrangements have been finalized for the grand launching of the Girls’ Tournament, officially taking place on 5th July 2026 at GPS Field, Kumba.
After a series of fruitful meetings with coaches and key stakeholders, we are thrilled to say: we are good to go!
This year’s tournament will be held under the inspiring theme:
“Menstrual Health Management and Wellbeing”
