LILIAN DIBO FOUNDATION FEMICIDE/GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE AWARENESS VIDEO CHALLENGE 🇨🇲

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! WOMEN ARE NOT MEANT TO BE KILLED.

The gruesome killing of women by their intimate partners in Cameroon is becoming increasingly alarming. From January till now, we have witnessed disturbing cases of women losing their lives at the hands of those who were supposed to love and protect them.

While society continues to debate the causes of these killings, one message must remain clear: MURDER IS A CRIME. FEMICIDE MUST BE PUNISHED BY THE LAW.

We cannot normalize the killing of women.
We cannot turn victims into suspects.
We cannot justify murder because of jealousy, relationship problems, infidelity, anger, financial difficulties or any other reason.

There is no justification for killing a woman.
It is time to raise our voices. It is time to challenge harmful beliefs. It is time to demand justice, accountability and stronger action against femicide and GBV in Cameroon.

Create a creative, powerful and thought-provoking video speaking against femicide and GBV in Cameroon. Do not minimize the power of your voice.
Your video can be:

Celebrating a Remarkable Young Leader: Akum Jesse Bright ETEM

Today, Lilian Dibo Foundation proudly celebrates Akum Jesse Bright ETEM, our Adolescent Lead Girl, as she marks another year of life.

Since 2020, Jesse has been a force driving change within her community. Her journey with Lilian Dibo Foundation has been one of growth, courage, and purposeful leadership. Over the years, she has developed into a bold and confident voice, one who is not afraid to respectfully speak up when it matters.

Jesse has been at the forefront of activities focused on adolescent girls, working to ensure that girls, particularly adolescent girls with disabilities in rural communities are not left behind. She continues to champion their meaningful participation in programmes and conversations that directly concern their lives, rights, opportunities, and future.

Her commitment reminds us that young people, when given the opportunity and space to lead, can become powerful drivers of change in their communities.

As you celebrate your birthday, Jesse, we celebrate not only the young woman you are today but also the leader you are becoming. May you continue to grow in confidence, wisdom and purpose, and may your voice continue to create space for other girls to be heard.

Update on Day 2 of ADAC Phase II

As Day 2 came to an end, participants left with a shared understanding:

The protection of women and girls with disabilities is not the responsibility of one organization or one institution. It is a collective responsibility.

Through ADAC, Lilian Dibo Foundation continues to create spaces where voices are heard, rights are understood, stakeholders are engaged and action is encouraged.

LDF remains committed to breaking the shackles of disability and advancing a society where women and girls with disabilities can live safely, access justice, participate fully and exercise their rights without barriers.

Update on Day 2 of ADAC Phase II: A Moment of Recognition and Appreciation

One of the most touching moments of the event came when Mr. Takang Aya Ayuk had the honour of presenting his Award of Recognition to the Divisional Delegate of Social Affairs for Meme Division.

The moment carried a deep sense of appreciation and solidarity, reflecting the importance of recognising individuals and institutions that contribute to advancing the rights, dignity and inclusion of persons with disabilities.

As the award was presented, emotions filled the room. The hall erupted in warm applause, jubilation and heartfelt celebration, turning the moment into a memorable expression of gratitude and recognition.

It was a powerful reminder that when service is acknowledged, it inspires greater commitment to the work that still lies ahead.

Update on Day 2 of ADAC Phase II: Award of Recognition

A special moment of recognition was dedicated to Mr. Takang Aya Ayuk, a disability rights advocate and the president of Close the Gap Association of persons with disabilities in Kumba, whose commitment to disability rights advocacy spans more than 25 years.

For persons with disabilities, the journey toward dignity, equality and inclusion has never been easy. They continue to encounter barriers in accessing justice, education, employment, healthcare, social protection and meaningful participation in community life. Advocacy itself can be demanding, often requiring persistence in the face of limited resources, institutional barriers and slow progress.
Yet, Mr. Takang Aya Ayuk has stood the test of time.

For over two decades, he has remained committed to raising his voice, representing the concerns of persons with disabilities and contributing to the advancement of disability rights within the Kumba community. His journey is a powerful reminder that meaningful change is often built through consistency, courage and years of dedicated service.

His recognition was therefore more than an award, it was a celebration of 25+ years of perseverance, leadership and unwavering commitment to the disability community.

This was d was handed to him by the CEO and Founder of Lilian Dibo Foundation herself.

Update on Day 2 of ADAC Phase II

One powerful demonstration involved the use of umbrellas as a symbol of protection and collective responsibility. The umbrella represented the need for LDF and all stakeholders to provide a strong and reliable layer of protection for women and girls with disabilities, by ensuring that no one is left exposed to violence, abuse or discrimination.

Each participant and stakeholder received an umbrella ☔ which signifies PROTECTION. A powerful take home message. Whenever they use this umbrella, they will think about the vulnerable women and girls with disabilities who need protection from violence and abuse.

Update on Day 2 of ADAC Phase II

Highlighting the increasing femicide in Cameroon and gender-based violence in Cameroon, LDF saw the opportunity to conduct a demonstration on advocacy against femicide, reminding participants that preventing violence requires collective action, early intervention, reporting and meaningful protection.

Reminder participants about the 200,000frs gender-based advocacy challenge Lilian Dibo Foundation had launched and is ongoing.

The story of the survivor of an attempted femicide was also highlighted and the need for more support to cater for her accumulated bills.

This was led by the Divisional Delegate of Women Empowerment and the Family, the Director of Women Empowerment Center and the CEO of Lilian Dibo Foundation.

Update on Day 2 of ADAC Phase II

Women and girls with disabilities were given space to share their personal experiences and struggles directly in the presence of stakeholders, including representatives of MINAS Meme, MINPROFF Meme, the Director of the Women Empowerment Center, quarter heads, lawyers and journalists. Their voices reinforced the urgent need for stronger accountability, accessible justice mechanisms and disability-inclusive protection systems.

Update on Day 2 of ADAC Phase 2.

Day 2 of the Active Disability Alliance for Change (ADAC) Phase 2 brought together women and girls with disabilities, community leaders, duty bearers, legal practitioners, journalists and other stakeholders for a powerful and deeply engaging day of advocacy, reflection and action.

The discussions focused on the challenges women and girls with disabilities face in accessing justice, including barriers to reporting violence, seeking protection, accessing legal remedies and receiving appropriate support.
