SUVAR 2026 HAS WRAPPED UP!

The Survivor Voices Against R**e (SUVAR) 2026 Conference in Limbe was a powerful space of learning, healing, and collaboration. Over three days (21st to 24th February), survivors and changemakers came together to share stories, support one another, and build practical strategies to prevent r**e and advance gender justice.

From heartfelt conversations to group projects and seed funding opportunities, every moment reminded us that real change starts when courage meets community.

🙏 Thank you to all participants, facilitators, partners, and to us, Rescue Women Cameroon (REWOCAM), for creating this brave space and inspiring movement toward healing, dignity, and impact.

Together we rise. Together we act. ✨

Rescue Women Cameroon is excited to announce that applications are now open for the 6th edition of Survivor Voices Against R**e (SUVAR). The 2026 convening will take place from 21st to 24th February 2026 in Limbe.

SUVAR brings together 30 r**e survivors and community changemakers in a safe and homely space for storytelling, trauma healing and collective strategizing on how to fight r**e in our communities. For four days, participants live together and share everything. They bond, cook together, cry when they must, laugh when they can and leave with renewed strength, clarity and hope. Many describe SUVAR as the moment their healing journey truly began.

As part of this program, REWOCAM provides 1000 US dollars in seed funding (approx. 500,000frs CFA), with an opportunity for repeat funding each year, to support survivor led community projects that raise awareness and inspire action against r**e.

The second round of REWOCAM’s 2025 survivor led funding is already inspiring powerful action, and Team Yaoundé, known as the Resilient Ladies, has stepped forward with an impactful start.

Their first outreach under this new phase focused on Preventing Household Sexual Assault, and it took place on a symbolic date, December 1 which is World AIDS Day. This made their message of protection, awareness and safety even more meaningful.

During their session at St John Academy of Excellence, the team engaged 350 students including 115 boys and 235 girls, along with 20 teachers. They held honest conversations about consent, grooming, abuse, safe reporting pathways and the role each young person plays in protecting themselves and others at home. They reminded the students that their bodies belong to them and that silence protects abusers, not victims.

What stood out was the openness of the students and the support from their teachers. The Resilient Ladies brought energy, courage and empathy to the room, and their message landed with clarity and strength. When survivors lead awareness efforts, the conversations become real and unforgettable.

With only 1000 dollars per round, Team Yaoundé is showing how knowledge can change hearts, attitudes and behaviour. We are proud of the Resilient Ladies for the boldness they bring to the fight against r**e in Yaounde. Their work is proof that change begins with the courage to speak and the commitment to educate.

As REWOCAM continues the second-round of 2025 funding for survivor led community projects, another Team Kumba is widening its impact with a thoughtful and community centered initiative. The team is currently working with five hospitals and health centers across Kumba through a project titled Expectant Mothers Against R**e. Their goal is to take conversations about prevention, protection and mitigation of r**e to the very heart of family life.

By meeting expectant mothers during antenatal visits, the team is opening a safe space for women to learn how to protect themselves and their children, how to recognise early warning signs and how to respond when abuse happens. These discussions are shaping informed families and stronger communities.

To support women practically, Team Kumba offers the Joy Basket. Each Joy Basket contains an emergency delivery kit, the essential items every woman in Cameroon must carry to the labour room. Many women who cannot afford this kit end up choosing home delivery, a choice that increases maternal and neonatal mortality and raises the risk of mother to child transmission of HIV. For vulnerable expectant mothers, receiving this kit is more than a gift, it is safety, dignity and a chance for a healthier birth.

With only 1000 dollars per round, Team Kumba is creating real change, touching households, improving knowledge and offering hope. We are proud of their effort, their dedication and the difference they continue to make in Kumba.

As REWOCAM continues the second-round of 2025 funding for survivor led community projects, the Disability Voices Against R**e team in Kumba, led by Lilian Dibo Foundation, is already amplifying powerful messages across media platforms to protect and support survivors.

With just 1000 dollars per round, this team is making their voice impossible to ignore. Through radio, television, social media and newspapers, they are educating communities about the dangers of r**e, guiding families on how to break the silence, and raising awareness on how to protect children living with disabilities from abuse. Their work also centers on supporting survivors and pushing for justice, especially for those living with disabilities who often face double invisibility. Team Kumba, under Lilian Dibo Foundation, is also receiving funding for the third time.

This is meaningful advocacy driven by a disability led organization that understands the realities on the ground. We are proud of their commitment and the impact they continue to create in Kumba and beyond.

As REWOCAM rolls out the second round of 2025 funding for survivor led community projects, Team Safe Haven Yaoundé is already on the ground breaking stigma, correcting misconceptions, changing harmful narratives and offering care and support to r**e survivors in the city.

What inspires us most is how much this team accomplishes with just 1000 dollars per round. With this modest support, they mobilize communities, hold awareness sessions, engage leaders, create safe spaces for survivors and follow up with care that brings real comfort and confidence to those who need it most. They stretch every franc with intentionality and impact.

This is the third time Team Safe Haven Yaoundé is receiving funding from REWOCAM and partners, and we remain deeply proud of the strong, consistent and meaningful work they continue to deliver in their community.

Yesterday marked the start of the second phase of our Girls Leadership Development Program, "I Believe In Me (IBIM)" and my heart is full.

We are bringing back 50 girls from the 200 we trained last year and watching the first 25 of them walk into that room yesterday with confidence and excitement reminded me why leadership development is so powerful.

We began by revisiting the lessons we covered last year, refreshing their memories and grounding them again in the values, skills and vision that shaped their first journey with us. What moved me the most was listening to them speak boldly about what they have achieved so far.

These same girls once created vision boards with quiet dreams, and now they stand firm, explaining how they are working step by step to make those dreams real. As we dive deep into "Life Mapping" from next week, which is the core of this next round, I believe we are on to a good start.

This is the kind of growth that cannot be hidden. When girls are given the space, tools and encouragement to believe in themselves, something remarkable happens. Their voices strengthen, their dreams expand, their confidence deepens and their sense of purpose becomes sharper. Leadership is not something these girls are waiting to grow into one day. They are already living it in the choices they make, the risks they take and the goals they pursue.

Seeing their progress is a reminder that investing in girls is far more than a program, it is a long-term transformation that touches families and communities. I am grateful to witness their journey and eager to see how far they will go in this new phase.

We are proud to share a moment of great joy and inspiration within the REWOCAM family. Our Executive Director, Dr. Nakinti Besumbu Nofuru, has successfully defended her PhD in Applied Linguistics, specializing in Gender, Discourse, and Language, from the University of Bamenda.

This remarkable achievement is the result of years of dedication, perseverance, and passion for research on gender, language, and social transformation. Her doctoral work, titled Breaking the Silence: An Analysis of Discourses Surrounding Female R**e Survivors in Cameroon, is not only groundbreaking in the academic field but also deeply connected to REWOCAM’s mission to end sexual and gender-based violence.

Dr. Nakinti’s journey embodies the power of resilience, the pursuit of knowledge, and the unwavering commitment to justice for women and girls. Her success is a reflection of what REWOCAM stands for, empowerment through education, advocacy, and courage.

She will officially be hooded this December, marking the final celebration of this extraordinary academic journey.

We celebrate this incredible milestone with pride and gratitude. Congratulations, Dr. Nakinti! Your success inspires us all to keep breaking barriers and leading with purpose.
