As part of our activities marking World Water Day on March 22, the Rural Empowerment Center (REC) carried out field activities with members of the Environmental Club at GBHS Bamendankwe. This year’s theme, 'Water and Gender,' reminds us that where water flows, equality grows.
In alignment with this global focus, our engagement centered on raising awareness about sustainable water use and the critical role young people play in protecting this vital resource.
Through interactive discussions and practical field learning, students explored simple yet impactful actions they can take daily to conserve water, prevent pollution, and promote responsible water use within their communities.
A key highlight of the activity was emphasizing that the girl child is at the center of water sustainability. In many communities, girls and women bear the primary responsibility for water collection and management. Empowering them with knowledge is not just education — it is transformation.
We reminded the students that:
💧 Every drop counts.
🌱 Small actions create lasting impact.
📚 Information is power — and empowered youth build sustainable futures.
At REC, we are dedicated to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by empowering young people with knowledge, facilitating community action, and providing practical tools to drive meaningful change within their communities.

At the Rural Empowerment Center (REC), we enter 2026 with renewed determination. We recognize that sustainable development is no longer an option—it is a necessity. Communities are demanding solutions, young people are demanding inclusion, and the planet is demanding responsibility. These challenges call for bold ideas, collective action, and compassionate leadership.

In 2026, REC commits to strengthening youth-led solutions, promoting climate resilience, advancing education and health awareness, and empowering rural and vulnerable communities to take charge of their future. We will continue to transform knowledge into action, research into impact, and challenges into opportunities—guided by the Sustainable Development Goals.

This year, we choose kindness over indifference, collaboration over isolation, and action over silence. We believe that real change begins when communities are heard, young people are trusted, and development is driven from the grassroots.

2026 is not just another year—it is a call to build, to heal, and to act together. At REC, we move forward with courage, purpose, and hope—committed to leaving no one behind.

Happy New Year 2026.

🌍 World Humanitarian Day 2025 🌍
Today is World Humanitarian Day, a moment to reflect on the value of kindness, compassion, and service to others. Around the world, many people dedicate their time and energy to helping those in need, often in very difficult circumstances. Their courage and commitment remind us that humanity is strongest when we stand together.

At the Rural Empowerment Center (REC), we are grateful for the young people, partners, and communities who join hands with us to make a difference. Humanitarian work is not only about responding to crises, but also about bringing hope, dignity, and resilience to people’s lives.

As we mark this day, let us remember that no act of kindness is ever too small. Each step we take to support one another builds a world where compassion wins over indifference. This year's theme, "Strengthening Global Solidarity and Empowering Local Communities," reminds us that together, we can achieve more. Let's work together to create a brighter, more companionate world.

💧 Water is Life – Let’s Protect It Together 🌍

At the Rural Empowerment Center (REC), we are deeply committed to advancing Sustainable Development Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, especially in underserved rural communities across Cameroon.
In places like Bambili, the reality is stark: constant water supply is a daily challenge for many quarters, impacting health, livelihoods and dignity. REC has been actively working to raise awareness, conduct field research and mobilize community action around water accessibility, quality and sustainable management. Our efforts are made possible thanks to passionate volunteers like Nkwain Godwill, who has been instrumental in sensitizing residents on how to better preserve and manage water resources—by avoiding waste, repairing broken pipes, and protecting local water sources from pollution.
At REC, we believe that every drop counts, and that rural communities deserve the same right to clean, safe, and sustainable water as any urban center.

Meet Noho Ornella, a passionate and dedicated volunteer at the Rural Empowerment Center, who is passionate about addressing Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6): Clean Water and Sanitation. One major issue identified in Ntamulung quarter, Bamenda, is the improper disposal of waste, which not only creates breeding grounds for mosquitoes but also poses serious risks to nearby surface water bodies. This growing concern calls for urgent and collective action towards effective waste management. Through a systematic analysis of the situation, Noho and the team are raising awareness and inspiring behavior change for better waste management practices. Let’s remember: “There is no such thing as waste, only resources in the wrong place.” – Mark Nelson
