The Pan African Institute for Development – East and Southern Africa (PAID-ESA) invites applications for the Founding Cohort 2026 of the PAID-ESA Global Practice Fellowships—a selective platform designed to connect African scholarship, professional practice, innovation and public leadership around some of the continent’s most consequential development challenges.

For more than 60 years, the Pan African Institute for Development has contributed to capacity development across Africa. The Global Practice Fellowships build upon this legacy with a simple but ambitious proposition: Africa’s practitioners are also knowledge producers, and their experience must inform the policies, institutions and solutions shaping the continent’s future.

The Founding Cohort is currently recruiting Fellows across five interdisciplinary practice areas:

Africa’s peace and security will ultimately be strengthened not only in conference rooms, but through the knowledge, leadership and agency of women and young people within our communities.

The Pan African Institute for Development – East and Southern Africa (PAID-ESA) invites applications for its Global Practice Fellowship in Women, Youth, Peace & Security, a selective 12-month, non-resident and non-stipendiary fellowship for Zambian citizens resident in Kabwe.

For more than 60 years, the Pan African Institute for Development has contributed to African capacity building and the development of professionals capable of responding to the continent’s evolving challenges. The Global Practice Fellowship extends this tradition by creating a rigorous community of practice in which knowledge, evidence, lived experience and professional practice converge.

The Fellowship seeks emerging and mid-career women and young professionals, practitioners, researchers, civil-society actors and community leaders whose work or interests engage with peacebuilding, conflict prevention, governance, humanitarian action, community development, research, public policy, and Women, Youth, Peace & Security.

Participation in the Fellowship will be ONLINE, enabling Fellows to engage with PAID-ESA’s wider academic and professional community while remaining embedded in their institutions and communities in Kabwe.

The Fellowship is conceived not simply as an opportunity to learn, but as an opportunity to contribute. On World Humanitarian Day, the Pan African Institute for Development – East and Southern Africa (PAID–ESA) honours humanitarian workers, volunteers, local responders, institutions and communities whose commitment saves lives and protects human dignity.

For more than 60 years, PAID has contributed to Africa's development through education, professional capacity building, applied research, projects and technical consultancy. Today, that mission increasingly requires preparing institutions and professionals for a humanitarian landscape shaped by interconnected crises.
