Farmers face difficulties in having the best quality seeds for better production, training on how to use modern techniques of farming and also a ready market for their produced crops. Fowls production requires a poultry farm for the production of fertilized eggs, incubators to produce day old chicks (Broilers) for meat. There is a need to develop this sector due to the constant shortage and lack o
f chicks. The Government has not put in place industries for this regards, meaning that farmers have to use their own initiatives and funds to make it happen. Animal feed is a necessity for the rearing of animals. Feed is mostly obtain from factories in Douala Cameroon. The prices per 50 Kg bags are extremely high, quality at times is not the best and also the transportation cost to the South west Region. Thereby increasing the production cost of animals which cannot be bought by all. Health and social Insurance is a major problem for farmers. When they or members of their families fall sick, they cover up to 100 percent of their hospital bills, making them to go bankrupt. Social insurance is another form of saving for pension, farmers lack that and after retirement, they don’t have any resource for their needs. Unemployment is faced by many, lack of funds for job creation. There are no livestock markets, a place where farmers could go and sell their livestock’s on daily basis with modern facilities, good hygiene and sanitation conditions, slaughter and cooling houses. Farmers suffer the most and still live in abject poverty. They need reasons for more and better production so as to eradicate poverty and fight against hunger. We operate a local animal feed factory where we receives complains daily.
