2026 TAX EVENT: AMCHAM REVEALS UNIQUE FISCAL INNOVATIONS

On Tuesday, February 10, the American Chamber of Commerce in Cameroon (AmCham) unveiled the 2026 Finance Law, highlighting its major innovations during a briefing cocktail themed “2026 Finance Law—Innovations, Perspectives, Potentials” at the Best Western Soaho Hotel in Douala.

Under the guidance of Guy Honoré Tchente, AmCham Vice-President and Tax Committee Chair, the event featured an insightful and interactive analysis of the 2026 Finance Law. Under the watchful eyes of members in attendance, Tchente delivered a keynote presentation discussing pioneering changes with regard to listing exonerations, youth hire exonerations, lease tax withholding, ridesharing tax, among others.

Furthermore, the keynoter highlighted that the 2026 financial law in Cameroon is strategically crafted to bolster state revenues through a rigorous fight against tax evasion and fraud, while simultaneously introducing advantageous measures for businesses. Tchente said: “In response to the current economic climate, the government has opted to broaden the tax base, ensuring equitable contribution from all Cameroonians to the tax system, instead of increasing existing tax rates. A pivotal element of this strategy is the promotion of compliance with both tax and customs regulations”.

Krishna Babu Mallapudi, representing the Cameroon branch of agribusiness giant Olam Agri, stated: “As an organization with a longstanding presence in Cameroon, we believe the new provisions in the 2026 finance law introduce heightened compliance challenges. Certain elements of this legislation seem to conflict with existing data protection laws, potentially jeopardizing the confidentiality of sensitive organizational information and increasing the risk of data mishandling.”

The Chamber’s “Tax Event” serves as a vital platform for understanding the essential role of taxation in the effective operation of businesses, both in the short and long term. In forthcoming articles, we will provide an in-depth exploration of the innovations within the 2026 Finance Act, supplemented by expert commentary and analysis from the AmCham Tax Committee.

“UNLOCKING FUNDING FOR FINTECH INNOVATORS”
Douala, Cameroon—July 17, 2025: In collaboration with AmCham Cameroon, the U.S. Embassy hosted an engaging Tech Event on the above theme at the Best Western Hotel, Douala.

The evening opened with remarks by Guy H. Tchente, Vice-President of AmCham Cameroon, who appreciated the presence of fintech startups, introduced the American Chamber of Commerce and its Board of Directors, and warmly welcomed participants to this impactful session.

H.E. John Robinson, Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy, then delivered an inspiring address encouraging fintech startups in Cameroon to build partnerships, seek mentorship from established players, and continue driving innovation for the growth of the local ecosystem.

In her keynote presentation, financial strategy expert Leah M. Rackovsky, Chair of the AmCham Emerging Technologies Committee, provided valuable insights into funding sources for Cameroon’s fintech innovators. While discussing the current landscape, she outlined actionable strategies to attract funding. Underscoring the increasing confidence in the national fintech ecosystem, Rackovsky highlighted how startups in Cameroon successfully raised over $91 million in recent years to develop digital financial services. In addition to presenting an inspiring funding roadmap, she elaborated on the unique characteristics of the Cameroonian economy that make it a fertile environment for fintech innovation. These attributes position the country as a pivotal player in bridging gaps in financial services and expanding across the African market.

Among notable fintech investors already engaged in Cameroon are Visa, Mercy Corps, Anthemis, Fuze, Digital Africa, Lundin Groups, and Lake Partners. Furthermore, the Cameroonian government, through its Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, along with the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), have launched significant support programs for the fintech sector. The event concluded with a dynamic Q&A and networking session, facilitating meaningful connections among fintech founders, CEOs, and ecosystem enablers.

👏 extends her sincere gratitude to all partners and participants for making this event a success. Together, we are building a stronger fintech community in Cameroon!
