𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒? 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬
𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐞: 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟐𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐲
The event commenced at 10 AM and was hosted by 𝐓𝐞𝐥𝐦𝐚 𝐀𝐅𝐀𝐍𝐖𝐈, who welcomed attendees and gave a rundown of the schedule. This was followed by the Cameroon National Anthem led by the 𝐔𝐁 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬.
Karl Djotchuang Tamo engaged the crowd, inviting two attendees to sell themselves to the crowd. After that, the vision bearer delivered an inspiring speech calling on all youths to collaborate to make Africa great.
𝐀𝐣𝐚𝐧𝐮 𝐒𝐨𝐟𝐨 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐨𝐧 moderated the panel discussions;
𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐥 𝟏:
1. 𝐎𝐛𝐞𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐬𝐡𝐮 - 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫 & 𝐂𝐄𝐎 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐚𝐦𝐝𝐚𝐚, shared about resilience in tech and the importance of skills and networking.
2. 𝐃𝐫. 𝐄𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐚 𝐉𝐨𝐬𝐨 - Discussed opportunities in public health and her motivation to enter medicine.
3. 𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐦𝐨 𝐌𝐚𝐝𝐣𝐢𝐨 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐚 - An entrepreneur who emphasized on the power of creative arts and networking.
4. 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐲𝐛𝐞𝐥 𝐄𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐓𝐚𝐦𝐟𝐮 - Therapist and founder of Prime Counseling Services, highlighted some mental health opportunities.
The panellists all shared their inspiring stories.
𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐥 𝟐:
1. 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐀𝐤𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐡 - 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐃𝐃𝐓 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐧, discussed legal aspects of business.
2. 𝐌𝐛𝐮𝐚 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐣𝐞𝐦𝐚 - 𝐂𝐎𝐎 𝐨𝐟 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐲 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫, spoke about financial independence for women.
3. 𝐄𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐨 𝐉𝐮𝐝𝐞 𝐍. - 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐫, shared insights on innovation in agriculture.
4. 𝐑𝐡𝐨𝐝𝐚 𝐀𝐤𝐚𝐥𝐞 - 𝐂𝐄𝐎 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐞, taught on financial wisdom and responsibility.
𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬:
✅Networking and skills are crucial for success.
✅Opportunities in health, agriculture, and creative arts are very many and not so difficult to source.
✅Financial literacy is essential for stability even as a youth.
✅Various scholarships and programs were highlighted, including the YALI Network and the Mandela Washington Fellowship.
𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 were organized into seven main fields: 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡, 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡, 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞, 𝐂𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐥 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐎𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 & 𝐍𝐆𝐎𝐬, 𝐋𝐚𝐰𝐬 & 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐬, and 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬. This permitted the youths to share their challenges, brainstorm solutions with peers in the field and provide recommendations for policy implementation.
The event concluded with the Award of certificates of participation, networking, and group photos. A cultural gala to crown 𝐌𝐫/𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬 𝐂𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐜 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐧, hosted by 𝐌𝐃𝐃𝐓 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐧 followed suit later in the evening.
