Better Earth International (BETA) actively participated in a 5-Day Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Case Management Workshop (Cohort 4) from 22-26 July 2026 in Bamenda, Cameroon.
The participation and completion of the five-day GBV Case Management Workshop marks a significant milestone in strengthening BETA's institutional capacity to deliver quality, survivor-centred GBV services. Throughout the training,BETA as well as other participants acquired comprehensive knowledge and practical skills covering the entire GBV case management process—from understanding GBV concepts and survivor-centred principles to case planning, implementation, follow-up, case closure, specialized responses to different forms of GBV, staff care, and information management.
The participatory learning approach, including case studies, role plays, group work, and plenary discussions, enabled participants to apply international best practices to realistic humanitarian scenarios.
The knowledge and competencies gained will strengthen BETA's ability to provide ethical, confidential, coordinated, and survivor-centred services while enhancing collaboration with humanitarian partners and referral service providers across the North-West and South-West Regions of Cameroon.
Better Earth International remains committed to applying the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the training to strengthen protection programming, build staff resilience, improve survivor outcomes, and contribute to a more effective and coordinated humanitarian response for conflict-affected communities in Cameroon.

Better Earth International (BETA) actively participated in the fifth and final day of the 5-Day Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Case Management Workshop (Cohort 4). Day Five (26/7/2026) focused on strengthening participants' understanding of staff care and well-being as well as information management in GBV case management, recognizing that quality survivor-centred services depend not only on technical competence but also on the well-being of frontline workers and the ethical management of sensitive information. The sessions allowed participants to reflect on real-life challenges faced by GBV case workers and develop practical strategies for promoting staff well-being while ensuring safe and confidential information management.
The following modules were covered during Day 5:
👉🏾Staff Care and Well-being. During this session participants understood the importance of caring for frontline staff who regularly work with survivors of trauma and violence.
👉🏾Information Management in GBV Case Management, as Participants gained a deeper understanding of the principles and procedures for managing sensitive survivor information safely, ethically, and confidentially.

Day 5 successfully concluded the workshop by highlighting two essential pillars of effective GBV case management: the well-being of those who provide services and the ethical management of survivor information. These competencies are fundamental to maintaining quality, dignity, confidentiality, and accountability in GBV programming.

BETA actively participated in Day 4 of the 5-Day Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Case Management Workshop (Cohort 4). Building on the knowledge and practical skills gained during the previous sessions, Day 4 (25/7/2026) focused on the implementation and continuity of survivor-centred case management, including follow-up and case closure, as well as specialized approaches to responding to Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and Sexual Violence affecting women and adolescent girls.
The following modules were delivered during Day 4:

👉🏾GBV Case Management Step 6: Case Closure
👉🏾GBV Case Management Response to Intimate Partner Violence (IPV)

Participants gained
1. practical knowledge on implementing survivor-led action plans while ensuring continuous support and coordination.
2. importance of continuous engagement with survivors to ensure their evolving needs are addressed.
3. learned the appropriate procedures and ethical considerations for closing GBV cases.
4. unique dynamics and risks associated with intimate partner violence and appropriate survivor-centred responses.
5. best practices for responding to survivors of sexual violence using survivor-centred principles.
Day 4 further strengthened participants' practical competencies in managing GBV cases through implementation, follow-up, and closure while enhancing specialized knowledge on responding to Intimate Partner Violence and Sexual Violence affecting women and adolescent girls.

BETA actively participated in Day 3 of the 5-Day Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Case Management Workshop (Cohort 4). Day 3(24/7/2026) focused on the practical application of GBV case management, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills required to effectively manage GBV cases using a survivor-centred approach.
The sessions combined technical presentations with case studies, group discussions, practical exercises, and plenary presentations, enabling participants to apply case management principles to realistic scenarios and strengthen their problem-solving and decision-making skills.
The Day 3 sessions focused on:
1. Overview of GBV Case Management
2. GBV Case Management Steps:
3. Introduction and Engagement
4. Assessment
5. Case Action Planning.

Participants gained a comprehensive understanding of GBV case management as a structured, survivor-centred process that supports survivors in identifying their needs, accessing appropriate services, and making informed decisions. Participants also gained knowledge on how to establish first contact with survivors and creating a safe and supportive environment.Participants learned how to conduct comprehensive survivor assessments while respecting the survivor's choices, priorities, and understood dignity,collaborative planning between the case worker and the survivor.
Day 3 marked a significant transition from theoretical concepts to the practical application of GBV case management. Through interactive learning and hands-on exercises, participants strengthened their competence in engaging survivors, conducting assessments, and developing individualized case action plans based on internationally recognised survivor-centred principles.

Better Earth International (BETA) continued its participation in Day 2 of the 5-Day Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Case Management Workshop (Cohort 4). Building on the foundational knowledge acquired during Day 1, day 2 (23/7/2026) focused on strengthening participants' understanding of survivor-centred case management and the professional competencies required to provide quality, ethical and confidential services to GBV survivors.
The training employed participatory methodologies, including interactive presentations, group discussions, case studies, role plays, practical exercises and plenary presentations, enabling participants to translate theoretical concepts into practical application.
The following modules were covered during Day 2:
👉🏾GBV Attitudes and Perceptions
👉🏾Theoretical Foundation for a Survivor-Centred Approach
👉🏾Guiding Principles of GBV Case Management
👉🏾Roles and Responsibilities of GBV Case Workers
👉🏾Effective Communication Skills in GBV Response.

BETA enhanced its understanding of how personal beliefs, cultural norms, stereotypes and biases influence attitudes towards Gender-Based Violence and survivors.
Participants gained a deeper understanding of the survivor-centred approach as the foundation of quality GBV response.
The training reinforced the internationally recognised guiding principles for working with GBV survivors. Participants explored the ethical and professional responsibilities expected of GBV case workers.The communication session equipped participants with practical techniques for engaging respectfully and effectively with GBV survivors.
Day 2 provided participants with essential knowledge and practical skills for delivering survivor-centred GBV case management. The emphasis on attitudes, ethics, guiding principles, communication and professional responsibilities has strengthened BETA's capacity to provide compassionate, accountable and high-quality support to GBV survivors.

📢 Strengthening Our Capacity to Better Serve GBV Survivors

Better Earth International (BETA) is proud to have participated in the 4th Cohort of the 5-Day Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Case Management Workshop in Bamenda, organized by Teen Alive Cameroon in collaboration with WA Cameroon, with support from UNFPA and GIZ.
The workshop aimed to strengthen the technical competencies of frontline humanitarian and development actors involved in GBV prevention and response by equipping participants with internationally recognized knowledge and practical skills in GBV case management.
Day 1, on 22/7/2026, focused on building participants' foundational understanding of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) through four core modules:
1. Basic Concepts of GBV
2. Power and Gender-Based Violence
3. Causes and Context of GBV
4. Consequences of GBV.
Through engaging presentations, group work, case studies, and plenary discussions, BETA strengthened its understanding in the following areas:
1. Understanding GBV Concepts
2. Power Dynamics
3. Analysing Causes and Context of GBV
4. Understanding the Consequences of GBV.

Day 1 successfully established a strong foundation for understanding GBV and its underlying drivers.

Together, we can build safer communities where everyone lives free from violence.
