Happy International Youth Day! 🌍✨

Today, we celebrate young people who are finding themselves, leading the way, dreaming big, and courageously navigating the many changes life brings.

As part of our International Youth Day celebration, we held a radio discussion on “The Psychology of Starting Over: Rebuilding Life After Change and Loss.” The conversation explored how major life transitions, including grief, job loss, divorce, migration, and other forms of change can affect our mental health and emotional well-being.

We discussed what it truly means to start over, why change can be emotionally challenging, and how grief can exist even in positive transitions. Most importantly, we highlighted practical ways young people can rebuild through support systems, self-compassion, hope, and taking small steps each day.

This session was a reminder that starting over is not a sign of failure. Sometimes, it is the beginning of a new chapter. 💚

On this International Youth Day, let us continue creating spaces where young people feel heard, supported, empowered, and hopeful about their future.

The Invisible Weight of Caregivers in Cameroon

Behind every person receiving care is someone quietly carrying the weight of responsibility.
Across Cameroon, parents, grandparents, healthcare workers, spouses, children, and relatives dedicate their lives to caring for others. While caregiving is an act of love and compassion, it can also come with emotional exhaustion, financial strain, burnout, grief, and isolation.

It’s time we recognize that caregivers need care too. Supporting those who care for others is essential for building healthier families, stronger communities, and a more compassionate society.

🌱 Life rarely unfolds exactly as we plan. Sometimes we are forced to begin again after losing a job, ending a relationship, relocating to a new city or country, surviving conflict, losing a loved one, or watching lifelong dreams fall apart. Starting over can be one of the most emotionally demanding experiences because it often involves grieving the life we once knew while trying to embrace an uncertain future.

The good news is that starting over is not a sign of failure. It is often the beginning of growth, resilience, healing, and discovering strengths we never knew we had.

Remember: Your story is not over because one chapter has ended. Sometimes the most beautiful chapters begin after the hardest goodbyes.

At GIMA, we believe that with the right support, every individual can move from a place of pain to a place of purpose—from a Safe Space to renewed strength.

🧠 Men’s Mental Health Matters

Today’s discussion focused on men’s mental health, the impact of harmful gender stereotypes, and the urgent need to create safe spaces where men can express their emotions without fear of judgment.

For too long, society has taught men to “man up,” stay strong, and suffer in silence. Yet behind many silent struggles are stories of stress, anxiety, depression, and emotional pain that often go unheard.

Our key takeaway is simple but powerful: real strength is not suffering in silence—it is having the courage to speak up, seek help, and support one another.

By challenging harmful stereotypes, teaching emotional intelligence, and normalizing conversations around mental health, we can build a society where men are empowered to prioritize their wellbeing.

💙 A healthy man is not one who hides his emotions, but one who understands and expresses them in healthy ways.

Beyond “Man Up”: Challenging Harmful Gender Stereotypes

For too long, society has taught boys that being a man means hiding emotions and enduring struggles in silence. Yet true strength lies in expressing feelings, seeking help when needed, and embracing healthy masculinity.

Let’s raise boys with emotional intelligence, normalize conversations about mental health, and celebrate men who are courageous enough to be vulnerable.

Being a man should never mean suffering in silence—it should mean having the freedom to be human.

☘️MEN’S MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH☘️

Healing begins the moment you say, “Bro, I’m not okay.” Talking about your struggles does not make you weak or soft—it makes you human.

Let’s break the silence, check on one another, and create spaces where men feel safe to speak up. We are strongest when we are honest.

June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, and it’s time to shift the conversation from “Man Up” to “Speak Up.”

For far too long, many men have been taught to suffer in silence, hide their emotions, and carry their burdens alone. This month, we are encouraging open conversations, breaking stigma, and reminding men that seeking support is a sign of strength—not weakness.

Join our campaign by sharing your message, beginning with:

“I promote men’s mental health awareness because…”

Together, let’s create a world where men feel safe to speak, heal, and thrive.

“MEN’S MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH”

📢Wednesday’s session provided a powerful opportunity to reflect on an issue that often goes unnoticed: the silent struggles many men face every day. We explored how societal expectations, stigma, and the pressure to always appear strong can prevent men from expressing their emotions or seeking help when they need it most.

📝One of the key lessons from the discussion was that vulnerability is not a sign of weakness but a demonstration of courage and strength. Opening up about personal challenges, emotions, and mental health concerns is an important step toward healing, growth, and overall well-being. We emphasized that no one should have to carry their burdens alone.

📝The session also highlighted the importance of creating safe, supportive, and judgment-free spaces where men feel comfortable sharing their experiences, fears, and struggles. By fostering understanding, empathy, and genuine connection, we can help break the culture of silence that often surrounds men’s mental health.
📍As we continue to observe Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, let us encourage open and honest conversations, challenge harmful stereotypes, and support one another in building healthier communities where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.
