Some communities normalize suffering so much that healing starts to look suspicious.

In many spaces, people are respected more for enduring pain than addressing it.

Rest is called laziness.
Therapy is mocked.
Boundaries are labeled pride.
Emotional expression is treated like weakness.

So people suffer quietly just to remain socially acceptable.

But surviving unhealthy systems should not be the highest form of strength.

Some people apologize for expressing emotions because they were taught their feelings were “too much.”

One of the saddest things emotional neglect does is convince people that their feelings are inconvenient.

So they apologize for crying.
Apologize for speaking up.
Apologize for needing support.

Eventually, they learn to silence themselves before anyone else can.

Mental health awareness also means unlearning the shame attached to being human.

Many adults are parenting from survival mode.

A lot of people grew up in environments where emotions were dismissed instead of understood.

So now, many adults know how to provide food and education…
but struggle to provide emotional safety.

Not because they are evil.
But because emotional safety was never modeled for them either.

And this is how emotional neglect quietly repeats itself across generations.

Mental health awareness is not just about individuals.
It is about the environments we normalize.

A lot of people are not coping.
They are distracting themselves well enough to survive socially.

Some people stay constantly busy because silence forces them to confront what they have been avoiding emotionally.

So they keep moving:
working,
scrolling,
laughing,
showing up,
performing normalcy.

And because they are functioning, nobody checks on them deeply.

Mental health conversations are important because survival and wellbeing are not the same thing.

A person can look fine and still feel emotionally exhausted inside.

𝗕𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 “𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲” 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹.

We meet deadlines.
We respond to emails.
We show up to meetings.

And somewhere in between, we say “I’m fine.”

But “fine” can sometimes mean:
• tired but pushing through
• overwhelmed but functioning
• struggling but silent

This Mental Health Awareness Month, maybe we redefine strength.

Not just as resilience —
but as recognizing when we need support.

At THE ARTVINE, we believe expression is part of that support.

Because what we don’t express, we carry.

And what we carry… eventually weighs on us.

What does “I’m fine” really mean for you these days?

We already marked the beginning of Mental Health Awareness Month.
But awareness doesn’t happen in a day.

Some of us missed it.
And that feels… honest.

Because if we’re being real, many of us don’t always notice when our mental health needs attention either.

We keep going.
We show up.
We deliver.

Even when we’re tired.
Even when we’re overwhelmed.
Even when something feels “off.”

Until one day, it catches up.

This month is not just about awareness.
It’s about attention.

Paying attention to:
• how we feel
• how we cope
• how others around us might be struggling quietly

So maybe this month isn’t about starting perfectly.

Maybe it’s about starting honestly.

What is one thing you’ve been ignoring about your mental wellbeing?

We already marked the beginning of Mental Health Awareness Month. But awareness doesn’t happen in a day. Some of us missed it. And that feels… honest. Because if we’re being real, many of us don’t always notice when our mental health needs attention either. We keep going. We show up. We deli...

Not all labor is paid.
Not all labor is seen.
But all meaningful work leaves an impact.
Happy Labour Day to everyone doing the work that truly matters - in big and small ways.

As Mental Health Awareness Month begins, let's also honor emotional labor.

Today marks International Workers’ Day, and the beginning of Mental Health Awareness Month.

A timely reminder that productivity should never come at the cost of wellbeing.

Behind every output is a human being.
Behind every impact is a mind that needs care, rest, and support.

To our THE ARTVINE volunteers,
To the hands that showed up.
To the hearts that stayed present.
To those who chose patience, empathy, and intention, even in the toughest moments…

We see you. We appreciate you.

You remind us that meaningful work is not only about what we produce, but how we care, for others and for ourselves.

As we step into this new month, may we:

• Normalize conversations around mental health
• Create spaces where people can express without fear
• Recognize that rest is not weakness
• And understand that healing and productivity can coexist

Because sustainable impact is built on healthy minds.

This month, let’s not just work harder.
Let’s care deeper.

To the hands that guided, the hearts that stayed, and the patience that made space, thank you.

During “Colors of Healing,” our volunteers were not just present, they were intentional.

They observed gently.
They listened without rushing.
They created space for children to express in ways words often cannot.

In creative healing, impact is rarely loud.
It happens in the quiet moments, a child choosing a color,
a pause before expression,
a smile after release.

And in those moments, you were there.

To the hands that guided, the hearts that stayed, and the patience that made space, thank you. During “Colors of Healing,” our volunteers were not just present, they were intentional.
