Today, I visited a community school supported by CYSD. As the children stood together to greet us, their voices rang out with confidence:

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom."

Then they added:

"If you want to succeed, you need to work hard."

These were not just words. They were a reflection of the determination, hope, and resilience that shine through the eyes of these young learners every day.

Despite the challenges created by the ongoing crisis in the English-speaking regions of Cameroon, these children continue to show up eager to learn, dream, and build a better future. Many have experienced displacement, school closures, and uncertainty, yet they remain committed to their education.

What struck me most was their simplicity. They are not asking for luxury. They are not asking for privilege. They are simply asking for a safe place to learn, grow, and pursue their dreams.

Every child deserves the opportunity to sit in a classroom, hold a book, and imagine a brighter tomorrow. Education is more than lessons and exams it is hope, protection, and a pathway out of poverty.

This image celebrates someone who chose impact over profit. In many ways, it reminds me of my own journey.

While others measure success by money earned, I measure it by lives transformed. In the midst of the ongoing crisis in Southwest Cameroon, when thousands of children were forced out of school for years, I made a decision: if schools no longer existed, we would create them.

With limited resources but an unwavering commitment to education, I single-handedly led the establishment of two community schools in hard-to-reach communities, giving hundreds of children a second chance to learn, dream, and rebuild their future. These schools became more than classrooms—they became places of hope, safety, and resilience for children who had almost lost everything.

Just as some people dedicate their lives to keeping knowledge accessible to everyone, I have dedicated mine to ensuring that every child, regardless of conflict or poverty, has the opportunity to return to school and pursue an education.

"The true measure of a humanitarian is not the wealth they accumulate, but the number of lives they uplift when no one else is willing to help."

𝐀 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐚𝐭 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤

In rural Southwest Cameroon, the transition from primary to secondary school is a critical breaking point. When children in Classes 3-6 fall behind in reading, school becomes a place of frustration, not opportunity.

Without foundational literacy, the consequences are heartbreakingly real: boys become vulnerable to drugs and delinquency, while girls face the imminent risk of early marriage and teenage pregnancy before they even turn 18.

CYSD Cameroon is stepping in to rewrite this narrative. We are launching the second face of a 2-year after-school reading program to give these children their confidence and their futures back. But we need our global community to make it happen.

Meet Masango Rovick: A story of hope and the power of education.

Three years ago, I met Masango playing with his friends deep in the forest. Like many families affected by the crisis in the English-speaking regions of Cameroon that began in 2016, his community had been displaced, forcing villagers to settle in bushes for safety. When i met him in 2022, He could not count from 1 to 10, and formal education felt like a distant dream.

Today, Masango is living proof that education can change lives even in emergencies.

Through our Education in Emergencies (EiE) and Literacy Program, Masango was given the chance to learn, grow, and believe in himself. I was deeply amazed and moved when he confidently stood before everyone and read the opening speech at our Christmas holiday mini party. That moment was more than a speech it was a testimony of progress, resilience, and hope.

Masango’s journey reminds us why we do this work. It shows that with the right support, every child no matter their circumstances can learn, lead, and inspire.

We remain committed to reaching more children like Masango and ensuring that no crisis steals a child’s right to education.

As part of our Education in Emergencies (EiE) and Literacy Program, we successfully closed the year by distributing textbooks to 89 children at Wisdom Community School in Likoko Munyenge, Southwest Region Cameroon 📚✨

Each child received three textbooks: Mathematics, English, and Sound & Word Building, aimed at strengthening foundational learning and improving their overall educational journey.

The Centre for Youth and Sustainable Development (CYSD) extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed financially to make this initiative a success. Special appreciation goes to a group of English-speaking Cameroonians, SAMBA ISRAEL, whose generous support played a key role in realising this project 🙏
