21/09/2025

It's international peace day, As our nation prepares for the upcoming elections, let us remember that democracy thrives only in an atmosphere of peace. Elections should not divide us, but unite us in building a stronger, fairer, and more inclusive future.

We call on all political leaders, candidates, communities, and citizens to commit to:
✅ Respecting democratic values and the rule of law
✅ Rejecting violence, hate speech, and intimidation
✅ Promoting dialogue, tolerance, and national unity
✅ Ensuring the protection and participation of women, youth, and vulnerable groups

🕊️ Our votes should be our voice, not our weapons.
Let us choose peace, because without peace, development and progress cannot stand.

Together, we can make these elections a testimony of maturity, unity, and hope for our country.

Waka Waka for Peace: Young Women Mediators Network Cameroon Joins the National Women Peace Convention in a Historic Walk for Peace

On 31st July, coinciding with Pan African Women’s Day for Peace, members of the Young Women Mediators Network Cameroon (YWMC) joined forces with the National Women’s Peace Convention for a national “Waka Waka for Peace”. This walk was a powerful demonstration of women’s solidarity across all 10 regions of Cameroon, uniting thousands of voices in one resounding call: Peace in our Nation.

As a proud member of the Women Peace Convention for 4 years, the Young Women Mediators Network has witnessed firsthand how collective women’s voices are shaping the national peace agenda. This year’s Waka Waka for Peace also marked the 4th anniversary of the Cameroon Women Peace Convention, a milestone celebrating persistent and courageous women-led advocacy for dialogue, social cohesion, and an end to the cycles of conflict affecting our communities.

For young women, this initiative is not only symbolic but strategic. By actively participating in the national peace walk, we:

Affirm our role as key actors in peacebuilding and conflict resolution.

Echo the intergenerational call for dialogue and inclusion in decision-making.

Demonstrate solidarity with women across Africa in alignment with Pan African Women’s Day for Peace, reinforcing the shared vision of a continent free from conflict.

In a country facing protracted crises and socio-political tensions, this women-led advocacy walk is a vital reminder that sustainable peace cannot be achieved without inclusive participation, community dialogue, and youth-driven solutions. It highlights the irreplaceable role of women and young people in early warning, mediation, and local peace initiatives.
