CECMAG REACTION TO THE TRAGIC INCIDENT AT MILE 2 MAKESHIFT BRIDGE NKWEN BAMENDA 3 , NORTH WEST REGION OF CAMEROON ON 26th DAY OF MARCH 2026 .

4 deads and others missing and presumed dead as a result of heavy rains which led to fload that swept off the makeshift bridge on thursday 26th march 2026 at mile 2 bamenda 3,northwest region of Cameroon . The main bridge in that area had earlier been demolished by BUNS Construction as part of the Bamenda Urban Crossing Project, forcing residents to depend on a temporary makeshift bridge as a pedestrian track for inhabitants around mile 2 .
Due to the heavy downpour it couldn’t withstand the pressure of the rain and collapsed with about 16 persons on it , 4 persons were rescued immediately by the residences of that area .
This incident happened because of gross negligence of the construction company and the competent authorities. They should have been inspection teams from our authorities especially in an area which is prone to flooding when there is heavy downpour. Even though the makeshift bridge was for temporary purposes it had to be solid , BUNS construction company could have done something more better and solid .
CECMAG sends its condolences 💐 to the families of victims of this tragic incident.

CECMAG wishes a happy YOUTH DAY to all Cameroonian youths .

February 11 is celebrated as national youth day in Cameroon .It is celebrated this year under the theme "YOUTH AT THE HEART OF GREAT HOPE, FOR A UNITED , STABLE AND PROSPEROUS CAMEROON. This theme emphasizes on the role of youths in national growth , development and stability.

While celebrating the 60th edition of youth day in Cameroon , let's take a deep reflection on the challenges faced by Cameroonian youths such as massive unemployment, migration, lack of good vocational schools, medical facilities, etc. The youths constitute more than 70% of the population yet no hope for a better future. The youthful population is an indication of a strong labour force for an emerging society . This is the moment to provide them with an enabling environment for a better Cameroon.
CECMAG believes that for purposes of good governance more youths should be recruited into the public sector just as the private sector needs to be enhanced so as to encourage youths entrepreneurs by cutting down taxes and increasing purchasing power.

February 6 is universally celebrated as International Day of zero tolerance for female ge***al mutilation . Female ge***al mutilation is the practice of partial or total removal of the external ge***alia of a girl or young woman for non medical reasons. This practice is a gross violation of human rights, which must be stopped completely over all the world 🌍.

As we are celebrating this day CECMAG encourages a collective abandonment of this practice in communities which practice it . CECMAG encourages discussion on this sensitive issue in our society on how to eradicate the tradition and the beliefs that drive this practice , educating them on the negative effects of the practice so as to eradicate it completely.
We owe a collective duty to our society to put an end to this practice which is inhuman, heinous and against the right to dignity of the person

Protecting wetlands has become more and more a global concern. CECMAG"s appeal is for states to adopt policies which preserve and protect wetlands in the face of expanding urbanization in the sub Saharan Africa . In the North West region of Cameroon large portions of wetlands have been brought about by raffia palm groves. The raffia palms by nature draw water from the ground to the surface thereby creating large expands of wetlands. Growing urbanization in Bamenda has resulted in the poorer denizens reclaming the wetlands for dwelling by cutting down raffia palms and erecting houses. The direct impact of such encroachments is the disappearance of wetlands in this locality
To reverse this trend there is urgent need for the decentralized local entities and traditional authorities to be empowered to protect wetlands within the urban zones .
