20th May is Cameroon's National Day, also called Unification Day. It commemorates 20th May 1972, when Cameroonians voted in a referendum to replace the federal system with a unitary state, creating the United Republic of Cameroon. The day is marked nationwide with military parades, cultural displays, speeches, and civic activities.It is celebrated this year under the theme : "National Unity: Backbone of the Defense System, Bedrock of Cameroon's Development". This theme emphasizes the importance of unity in strengthening national security, stability, and economic progress. It highlights the idea that a united people can better defend their country and work together toward development and prosperity
As we celebrate this day let’s take a deep reflection on the progress and challenges faced by our beloved country .This day provides a moment for Cameroonian to evaluate how far our country has strived towards achieving integration, peace, and development, and to acknowledge areas where the country is still facing lots challenges.
On our part CECMAG encourages the authorities to strengthen civic education,promote inclusive development and to foster dialogue in view of settling the on going sociopolitical crisis in the northeast and southwest regions that consist a great challenge to national unity , peace and development and support civil society partnerships.
