The Ministry of Public Health has published the CAMPHIA 2024–2025 English summary sheet, giving Cameroon the latest official evidence on HIV. This provides an important opportunity to move beyond reading statistics and help young people understand what the data means for their lives, their communities, and their role in the HIV response.

This and many more will be discussed on our Let's Talk Pandemics session this evening.

HIV in Cameroon, What the numbers say

The latest CAMPHIA 2024 data shows that HIV is still affecting thousands of Cameroonians, with some regions recording prevalence rates above 5%.

📍North West: 5.6%
📍Centre: 5.3%
📍South: 4.8%
📍Adamawa: 4.2%
📍 East: 4.0%

But this isn’t just about statistics. These numbers represent real people our friends, classmates, colleagues, family members, and neighbors.

As young people, we have a role to play:

✅ Get tested regularly and know your status.
✅ Speak up against stigma and discrimination.
✅ Promote safe and responsible choices.
✅ Stop spreading myths and misinformation.
✅ Support friends and loved ones living with HIV.

An HIV free future won’t happen by chance. It will happen when we, as young people, become informed, involved, and empowered.

Let’s move from awareness to action.

On June 4th and 5th, 2026, Youth Against Pandemics (YAP), through its Youth Advisor Ivan Paterson Bep, participated in an awareness campaign organized by the Yaoundé 5 Municipality at the Collège Larousse in Yaoundé.

This activity provided an opportunity to discuss several major public health issues with young people and their parents, including:
Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis; Antimalarial resistance; and HIV prevention and protection measures.

Through these discussions, participants were made aware of the importance of prevention, access to reliable information, and adopting healthy behaviors.

YAP remains committed to promoting the meaningful participation of young people in community health initiatives and supporting actions that contribute to the well-being of communities.

------------------
We meet again tomorrow for another exciting session on our weekly "Lets Talk Pandemics". 🤗🤗🤗

This time around we will be discussing on the topic "Effect of Social Applications on Sexual Behaviors and HIV".

Youths from Centre for Advocacy in Gender Equality and Action for Development and RECAJ + recently participated in a Focus Group Discussion (FDG) conducted by Hedecs Cameroon under the The Global Fund.

The objective of this FDG was to gather the opinions of youths living with or affected by , and/or , to better navigate where the the GC8 funding focus on.

This comes in timely when the budget for GC8 has been cut by a whooping 30% and there is a need to highlight the most important issues that are top priority.

These questions revolved around challenges faced by youths in managing TB, Malaria and TB, accessing health services, relationship with health workers, availability and comfortability with medications, personal experiences and suggestions for improvement in the above mentions health areas.

We hope this data reaches the right authorities and bring forth change that is tangible.

This FDG was facilitated by Mr. Gilbert and supervised by Mme. Ndiomo.

“Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must.”

Malaria is Preventable, Treatable, and Beatable. Young people have the power to lead the change.

This World Malaria Day, let's raise our voices, protect our communities, and demand better access to prevention, testing, and treatment.

Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must.

« Motivés pour éradiquer le paludisme : C’est possible. C’est impératif. »

Le paludisme est évitable, traitable et vainquable. Les jeunes ont le pouvoir d’impulser le changement.

En cette Journée mondiale du paludisme, faisons entendre nos voix, protégeons nos communautés et exigeons un meilleur accès à la prévention, au dépistage et au traitement.

Motivés pour éradiquer le paludisme : C’est possible. C’est impératif.

A member of the Youth Advisory Group (YAG) David Ivan under the CESI project participated in the official launch of the Country Dialogue in Cameroon.

This is a milestone achievement, ensuring that youths occupy decision making spaces, making their voices and that of other youths through active representation heard. The process is a key step in preparing for GC8 (the 8th funding cycle of the The Global Fund ), particularly for the collaborative development of the National Concept Note.

In a context marked by a reduction of approximately 29% in funding, it is essential to guarantee:
• Effective representation of young people
• Consideration of the specific needs of young people
• Interventions adapted to the realities on the ground

YAG reaffirms its commitment to actively contribute to this process in order to promote inclusive, equitable, and sustainable responses.

Nothing for young people without young people.
