Breast Cancer in Cameroon: Breaking Taboos, Challenging Myths and Taking Action Early.

Breast cancer remains a major public health concern worldwide. In Cameroon, raising awareness among young people is important not only to improve knowledge of the disease, but also to address misconceptions, fear, stigma and barriers that may delay medical consultation.

Today, we seek to increase young people's awareness and understanding of breast cancer in Cameroon by challenging common myths and social taboos, promoting recognition of warning signs, encouraging timely medical consultation and strengthening youth participation in community-based health awareness.

Le cancer du sein au Cameroun : briser les tabous, déconstruire les mythes et agir précocement.

Le cancer du sein demeure un enjeu majeur de santé publique à l’échelle mondiale. Au Cameroun, sensibiliser les jeunes est essentiel, non seulement pour améliorer la connaissance de la maladie, mais aussi pour combattre les idées reçues, la peur, la stigmatisation et les obstacles qui peuvent retarder une consultation médicale.

Aujourd’hui, nous cherchons à renforcer la sensibilisation et la compréhension des jeunes camerounais face au cancer du sein, en déconstruisant les mythes courants et les tabous sociaux, en favorisant la reconnaissance des signes avant-coureurs, en encourageant une consultation médicale rapide et en renforçant la participation des jeunes aux initiatives communautaires de sensibilisation à la santé.

We are looking for young people living with , under the age of 30, who are passionate about youth leadership, HIV, health, rights and creating meaningful change at a global level.

🟣 LET’S TALK PANDEMICS | THE PRICE OF BEING “HER”

What does it cost to simply be a woman or a girl in Cameroon?
The right to live, love, dream, work and exist without fear should never come at the price of your life.

Femicide the killing of women and girls because of their gender, often in contexts of intimate-partner or Gender-Based Violence is raising serious concern in Cameroon. MINPROFF reported that around 50 femicides had already been recorded in the first four months of 2026, while reports from civil society later put the 2026 figure at more than 60 cases.

For context, government figures recorded 57 cases in 2023 and 76 in 2024, highlighting the need for stronger prevention, protection, reporting and accountability.

“The Price of Being ‘Her’ Why are women being killed, and what can young people do to help end femicide?”

🟣 PARLONS PANDÉMIES | LE PRIX D’ÊTRE « ELLE »

Quel est le prix à payer pour être simplement une femme ou une fille au Cameroun ?
Le droit de vivre, d’aimer, de rêver, de travailler et d’exister sans peur ne devrait jamais coûter la vie.

Le féminicide — le meurtre de femmes et de filles en raison de leur genre, souvent dans un contexte de violence conjugale ou de violence fondée sur le genre — suscite de vives inquiétudes au Cameroun. Le MINPROFF a signalé qu'environ 50 féminicides avaient déjà été recensés au cours des quatre premiers mois de 2026, tandis que des rapports de la société civile ont par la suite porté ce chiffre à plus de 60 cas pour l'année 2026.

À titre de comparaison, les chiffres officiels faisaient état de 57 cas en 2023 et de 76 en 2024, soulignant la nécessité de renforcer la prévention, la protection, le signalement et l'obligation de rendre des comptes.

One of our Youth Advisors Habiba Hodi joins to fight against , , and during the 24th Edition of the AIDS Free Holidays Campaign 2026

The 24th Edition of the AIDS Free Holidays Campaign 2026, themed “Responsible Holidays, AIDS Free Youths,” was implemented under the Regional Technical Group (RTG) for the Fight Against HIV and AIDS, in collaboration with COMAGEND, Plan International Cameroon and other partners.

The campaign began with a two day Peer Educators training on 28th and 29th July 2026, officially opened by Dr. Ambe Lionel, Regional Delegate of Public Health for the Northwest Region. The training equipped participants with practical knowledge on HIV and STIs, TB, Malaria, Hepatitis B, Universal Health Coverage, risk communication and community engagement.

From 30th July, the 20 day campaign moved into the community, with Peer Educators conducting sensitisation and peer education, while distributing condoms and lubricants and promoting responsible health choices among young people and community members.

The campaign concluded on Friday the 21st with a community health outreach in Bambili, providing free HIV, Syphilis and TB screening, condom distribution and sensitisation on HIV, STIs, Hepatitis B, Universal Health Coverage, moral depravity, TB and Malaria prevention.

As a Youth Advisor under CAGEAD’s Community Engagement Strategic Initiative (CESI) and a Peer Educator for the campaign, Habiba's participation provided an opportunity to engage directly with young people, share accurate health information and contribute to community based efforts addressing HIV, TB and Malaria.
Overall, the campaign successfully combined capacity building, peer education, community sensitization, prevention commodities and access to health services, reinforcing the message of responsible holidays and an AIDS Free generation.

In a recent visit to the Northwest Region, CAGEAD lead the Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) of The The Global Fund to the Regional Delegation of Health where they met with the Regional delegate and had insightful discussions on The Global Funds initiatives within the region, looking at obstacles and local solutions to these challenges.

Representing the YAP, out Youth Advisor Habiba Hodi was part of the delegation that warmly received and contributed her voice to that of other stakeholders, to shape decision taken at the CCM based on the result gathered from these meetings around each region.
